Me & Laura
About this Cook
Teaching is what I do and love but my real passions are reading, gardening and cooking!
My favorite things to cook
Complicated and creative recipes. Cooking is an art.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Our Christmas Eve Buffet...it came about by accident after a sad divorce, but stayed because we all love it! Even when I went to France to visit my daughter, Laura, while she was at the University of Aix-en-Provence for a year, we made our Christmas Eve buffet in her teeny-tiny apartment.
My cooking triumphs
One amazing Thanksgiving where we had authentic Italian foods for dinner.
My cooking tragedies
A horrible Thanksgiving...my first to make dinner (and I was only 20) and I tried to make a gourmet meal for my in-laws, complete with a duckling, and it was just awful. Much crying.

Salmon Marinade
This was a great marinade for salmon. I marinaded the salmon for 24 hours and, oh my gosh! It was the best grilled salmon I had ever made!

Sugar Cookie Icing
After decades of making sugar cookie icing and never being completely happy with any of the recipes I used, this one is the perfect one for me. It dries to a shiny finish that is hard without being hard to eat so, you can transport the cookies easily if needed.

Blueberry Cream Cheese Pound Cake II
I have made this cake four times, witht he fourth time being the best. It had too much liquid and, after experimenting, I ended up using 1/2 cup oil. I only made this cake with canned blueberries once. The absolute best is to use fresh blueberries, I used about 1 1/2 cup of fresh blueberries, reserving about 2 T. of blueberries and mixing them with a little water to make the drizzle icing.
