About this Cook
Newly remarried with a family that doubled overnight. I use my skills developed as a single mom for five years to manage our busy household. I still try at least one new recipe a week, all vegetarian, sometimes vegan.
My favorite things to cook
I've learned how to throw a dish together - with no recipe. It was a little frightening at first since I am a strict recipe-follower. But when the dish comes out not-horrible, that's the best feeling ever! I trusted my intuition!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother is full Italian so I have a family recipe passed down from her. My other grandmother was a farmer's wife so I have stick-to-your-ribs recipes from her. And my mother started cooking healthy after my dad suffered a heart attack. I have the best of three worlds!
My cooking triumphs
Apple pie, Banana cream pie, hummus, roasting eggplant *just right*, various lentil soups
My cooking tragedies
There have been more than few, but that's how we learn, right?

Basic Vegetable Stock
Thank you for this basic and versatile recipe for veggie stock. My new husband is vegetarian, but over the years I had gotten quite good at making chicken stock. :) Making veggie stock was a different task for me, but I enjoyed it and will make again.

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes
I liked this recipe as-is. I think the blandness may come from too much roux or too bland a cheese. In that case, I would suggest adding a little salt and try a medium or sharp cheddar. Good recipe!
