Sour Cream Spritz

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2004
This one got lots of rave reviews, so I tried it. My family hated them. I can't eat wheat, so I didn't try them. However, they said that they were bland and flavorless. They also said they need more sugar. I left them at church during a potluck, hoping someone would eat them.

Cream Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2002
This recipe was fantastic. After reading the other reviews that said the cake was dense, I added a little extra baking powder. It turned out, light, airy, and full of creamy vanilla flavor. A definite make-again recipe!

Jesse and Steve's Fresh Strawberry Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2002
I made this to bring over to a friend who just had a baby, along with a chicken dinner. She LOVED it and asked me for the recipe. It was very easy. I followed one reviewer's suggestion and made extra glaze. I made 1 1/2 times the suggested amount, and that seemed perfect. I also made it in a 9x9 pan and it turned out great!

Special Cereal Bars I

Reviewed: May 29, 2002
Great, easy dessert. Very quick to make. I left out the chocolate chips and peanut butter chips. They're great on their own. One important thing: Cut these in the pan while they're still warm!!!! You'll never get the knife through them when they cool off. They're still soft enough to chew, but very hard to cut! I'm glad I cut them beforehand!!!!!

Chocolate Cut Out Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2001
I don't think there was enough flour in this recipe. It seemed too loose to roll out. I added 1/4 cup extra flour and chilled it for 3 hours. Still not rollable. So, I put it in the cookie press. Turned out very well that way.

Great taste. A little strong. I added less rum the second time, and a little more sugar, too.

Easy Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2001
Great recipe. Easy to make and great flavor. I'm not used to making sugar cookies with a rising agent, so when I used the dough for cut-out cookies, I found that, when baked, the cookies puffed up. The cookies that were cut with an intricate cookie cutter didn't resemble the original shape....but the kids didn't care! If you're using cookie cutters, use basic designs like a Christmas tree or a pumpkin.

It was gone in no time!!! Very good!! I sprinkled the top with sugar before baking, which made a nice topping.

Blueberry Cream Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2001
Great, easy recipe. I put a sprinkle of white sugar on the muffins before baking, and it made a nice, crispy top. I also found that 350 was a better baking time for me, but it could have just been my oven. I had to reduce the temperature when the muffins started browning too early.

Authentic Arawak Bar-B-Q Sauce

This recipe is WONDERFUL! I've made it twice before. One of those times was for a Father's Day celebration. I'll be making it again tomorrow for a Labor Day weekend party. Can't wait!

Canadian Molasses Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2001
This recipe was simple to make. I made it all in one bowl and didn't even have to use a mixer. I was worried about it being too strong after I read the reviews, so I used 1/4 cup of honey and 3/4 cup of molasses. I also rolled the dough into balls and rolled it in sugar. They turned out great!!!!

Fortune Cookies I

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2001
When I was mixing the batter, I'd already formed my opinion that these would be terrible!!!! However, they did turn out okay, with some adjustments. I quadrupled the recipe, which may have something to do with it. I needed 24 cookies. I followed the recipe, but it never mentioned anything about using the egg yolks, so I didn't. Were they supposed to go into the cookies? The batter was very thick, and there was no way it would pour. I added skim milk by the tablespoon until it was thin enough to run. After that, everything went okay. They wouldn't stay folded around the measuring cup, and I found that if I just sat them on the counter in the folded position they stayed closed. The taste was wonderful! They taste and look just like the restaurant kind, after trial and error!!!!

This recipe is GREAT!!! It turns out perfectly every time!!! I made it with lime Jello-O and used Christmas tree and wreath designs with my cookie press. They disappear very quickly!

Asian Beef with Snow Peas

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2000
This recipe was great, and I'm not a beef lover. I thawed the meat in the marinade, so it marinated for quite a while. I also used more sugar (wasn't sweet enough) and cider vinegar instead of rice vinegar because that's what I had on hand. Very tender meat, and delicious flavor.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2000
Even my very picky daughter liked this one. It was very moist and tasted great! I left out the cloves (personal taste) and made two larger loaves instead of 3 smaller. I just increased the time a bit. I will make this one again!

Pear Bread I

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2000
This is a very good tasting bread. I used canned pears instead of fresh and just chopped them up. The mix was a bit dry, so I added a little of the canned juice along with the pears. It baked in the same amount of time indicated with the extra juice. This bread is on the sweet side, but maybe that's because of the extra juice. I will make this again!

Barbara Bush's Chocolate Chips

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2000
Very easy chocolate chip cookie recipe. My kids and husband love them. It makes a very small amount, though, so I quadruple the recipe each time and keep some dough in the refrigerator for when I run out--which is very soon.

Applesauce Bread I

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2000
This recipe was very easy to make! I made it with canned apple pie filling instead of applesauce because it's what I had in the house, and it was great. I just mixed that part in the mixer longer to chop up the apple pieces. I was delicious. I'll make it again!!
