Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2012
very, very good. Two comments though. 1 it is very spicy and 2 it makes a lot of chili. I used a 7 quart dutch oven and it was too small. I'll have to get a larger pot or halve the recipe next time.

Black Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2010
I made some changes just like everyone else, but loved the concept. I wanted to make a recipe using black eyed peas for the new year. I substituted turkey stock for the broth, substituted black-eyed peas for the beans, and added chopped fresh tomatoes. It was great. Might add cheddar next time.

Bread Machine Focaccia

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2008
Great recipe, will definitely do again. I made some minor changes: substituted 1 tsp dried rosemary for fresh, added 1 tbs sugar to feed the yeast and used half bread flour and half whole wheat. I put the dough on an oiled breadstone and like some other reviewers put it on the middle shelf of a cold oven with shallow pan of hot water on the bottom shelf. I let it rise for 30 minutes then turned the oven to 375 and baked it for 25 minutes

Slow Cooker Turkey Breast

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2008
I gave this recipe two stars only because it was easy. The turkey was ok, the onion soup mix is boring. I served this turkey along with one that was oven roasted at a large get-together. Everyone liked the oven roasted turkey far better so the leftovers from this recipe ended up in a casserole.

Venison Meat Loaf

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2007
It was great to find a venison recipe instead of adapting beef recipes. I made some changes: soaked the venison in milk to remove any gamey taste, sauteed the onion in butter before mixing, and used 1/3 cup catsup instead of vinegar.

Irresistible Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2007
Great recipe. I followed the advice of other reviewers and added 1 tbs of flour and 1 tsp of vanilla. I also cheated and used premade pie crust.

Oven Fried Chicken IV

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2007
neighbor borrowed the soour cream so I substitued mayonaise. Didn't have enough sage so used Mccormicks turkey rub instead. Cooked chicken too long due to a minor emergency. It was still great

Amy's Garlic Egg Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2007
Wonderfully moist and tender, my family loved it. I made the breading using the recommended changes but had a lot left over - and I had 8 chicken breasts not 4.

Apricot Walnut Loaf

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2006
The recipe looked great, but the bread came out ok at best. I let it raise too much so maybe that was the problem. It might be better if you let the bread machine mix in the apricots.

Blackened Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2006
delicious and very easy to make. I used commercial cajun seasoning and cooked the chicken breasts 25 minutes rather than 5 to 10.

Beef Barley Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2006
Great soup! I tried to follow the recipe, but there wasn't enough broth in the slow cooker when I cooked the meat. I added the barley later with the water and boullion.

Whole Wheat Honey Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2006
Great recipe, made it many times now. I add 3 tbs of vital gluten and use butter instead of shortening for better flavor. I use the breadmaker to make the dough and freeze half. The other half is placed in a bread pan and allowed to rise for an hour or so then cooked in a conventional oven at 375 degrees for 35 minutes. (Bake for 45 minutes if using the whole loaf)

Swedish Cardamom Meatballs

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2005
The spices were very different - too strong and different for my family. I thought it was OK but my family hated it. We gave it to the dogs. The recipe would be very good with fewer, more traditional spices.
