About this Cook
I'm an assistant professor. I love to cook in my spare time (which is very limited these days, but I still have to eat and I love to cook!). Cooking has even been a part of my research. We've designed an after-school program for kids to learn science through cooking.
My favorite things to cook
Pound cake, any kind of layer cake, sauteed vegetables, pasta dishes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking and decorating birthday cakes for people on their birthday. My Grandmother used to make and decorate our favorite kind of cake for each of us on our birthday. So I love to do it too.
My cooking triumphs
The pound cake. My mother and I went around asking every pound cake guru we knew how to get the perfect pound cake. And we've gotten so much better. I even found ways to decorate them too!
My cooking tragedies
The first meal I cooked for my boyfriend, I stepped out of my normal zone and made baked chicken breasts (boneless, skinless). They came out dry and rubbery... I'll do better next time - or next time I'll stick to what I know - chicken on the bone!

Delicious Pumpkin Bread
This is my favorite favorite favorite recipe! I've made it so many times now. The bread is so moist. It makes a large amount, so usually, I make muffins and a loaf. I use the pumpkin that comes in the can, and usually I use about a can and a half (15 oz can + almost half of another can). I always add the light dry ingredients first, mix those up, then the sugar, stir that thoroughly, and then all the wet ingredients except the pumpkin. I also beat the eggs before adding them. Then I add the pumpkin last. I think that helps to prevent having lumps of things in your bread.

We had middle school girls in our after-school program make these, and they came out really really good! I think they had a little trouble pressing them the right amount (they were thick), but a tortilla press would've been really helpful for that... The flavor was really good!
