About this Cook
I grew up in a family of 6 kids. Both of my parents cooked for us, but I always liked my dad's cooking better. He liked to try new things.
My favorite things to cook
Anything that my family enjoys! Mostly I like to cook using organic meats since they have more intense, pure flavors that are not masked by excessive fat content. We know a rancher who raises all organic beef and pork and my family hunts so we have a great variety of meets to choose from.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Favorite traditions whould have to be the list of cookies that my mom always made at Christmas time. I try to add a few new items each year, but it's not Christmas without the tried and ture favorites like chocolate mint sandwich cookies and my grandma's divinity.
My cooking triumphs
Cheesecake! I don't think I've ever ruined a cheesecake.
My cooking tragedies
My first attempt at pie curst. I ended up burrying it in the back yard, fearful that my dad would see the mess I'd made and the waste of all the ingredients. That night, our dog dug it up and proceeded to bring it onto the back deck to try to consume while we were eating dinner just inside. I was exposed but did not get into trouble since I'd followed up my mistake with a successful apple pie.

My Amish Friend's Caramel Corn
This is the easiest, best tasting caramel corn recipe I've ever tried! It stayed crisp and flavorful for several days in a covered container. I will use it exclusively when making caramel corn.

Nutty Wild Rice Salad with Kiwifruit and Red Grapes
I thought that the lemon with the rice was a very odd flavor. I had to add some onion, garlic and ginger to dress it up before I even considered serving it. It was much better with the additional flavors. I also added more olive oil. I won't make this salad again in it's original form.

This is a good, easy dish to prepare that everyone likes. I make it even easier by using my crock pot to heat it. Adding 1/2 tsp of liquid smoke is a good variation and makes it more interesting, also
