Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2007
WOW! Amazing! I made these for the first time to take to a church gathering and got RAVE reviews. I didn't change a thing. This one is a definite keeper.

Cheese Herb Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2007
I subbed 3 tea. Italian Seasoning (instead of using the called for marjoram, thyme, basil and oregano) and the bread came out great. DH said it tasted like Macaroni Grill's bread. Mine caved in, but I've read that is due to too much moisture in the loaf. The dough did seem rather wet, so next time I will reduce the water to 1 cup and see what happens. Otherwise, this was a great tasting loaf and DH toasted a slice and made a deli sandwich with it that is amazing!

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2007
Everyone at my house loved this! I added some chopped onion and chopped garlic to the pot before cooking. We discovered by accident when I served chopped broccoli on the side that this recipe is definitely saucy enough that a 16 oz. package of chopped broccoli can be thawed and added right to the crockpot during the last hour of cooking.

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2007
I boiled the chicken breasts, carrots and celery in a 50/50 mixture of chicken broth and water and saved the liquid when the breasts were done. I used that liquid in place of the broth called for in the recipe. I added one clove of garlic and a can of mushroom stems and pieces. Everything else was exactly as called for in the recipe. It came out great and hubby and son both thought it tasted just like the good store-bought chicken pot pies. Definitely a keeper recipe.

Vienna Schnitzel

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2007
This was really, really good as is; however, although not technically "German", I think this could be improved by seasoning the bread crumbs with oregano and Parmesan.

Octoberfest German Potato Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2007
Excellent German Potato Salad - a keeper. We did cut back on the vinegar to 1/4 c. based on other reviews. We also added 6 slices of cooked, crumbled bacon, and two chopped hard boiled eggs. We served it with Vienna Schnitzel, found here, and sauerkraut.

The Best Meatballs You'll Ever Have

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2007
These were really great paired with the "Meatball Grinders with Yummy Sauce" recipe here on this site. They are a bit spicy, so if you're not into spicy foods, try cutting back on the Worcestershire sauce, the red pepper flakes or the Cajun seasoning and working up to what you like. I made a batch of these, browned them in a hot skillet, then put them in the Crockpot with the "Yummy Sauce" mentioned above and cooked it all for five hours. These meatballs made wonderful meatball grinders!

Meatball Grinders with a Yummy Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2007
Wow, excellent sauce! I cut back just a little bit on the apple jelly based on other reviews and used three heaping tablespoons instead of 10 oz. I put all the ingredients in a slow cooker along with a double batch of "The Best Meatballs You'll Ever Have" on this site. This does make a lot of sauce, so don't hesitate to add more meatballs than this recipe calls for. I cooked the sauce in the slow cooker for about five hours. Great meal for after church on Sunday.

Broccoli, Pepperoni and Three Cheese Calzones

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2007
These were great and a huge hit at a recent Labor Day Party. I took the advice of others and doubled the filling, adding a cup of hard salami along with the diced pepperoni. The dough is a bit sticky and I did add some extra flour during the kneading stage. Definitely a pretty dish and tastes great too!

Monte Cristo Sandwich - the Real One

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2007
Double the batter as suggested by another reviewer. I use wooden BBQ skewers cut into thirds instead of toothpicks, which were too short to use adequately. I made one sandwich with hard salami, turkey, and cheddar cheese, and they were excellent. The ham, turkey and swiss sandwiches were also very good. Don't serve this with other fried foods -- I served homemade French fries and it was just too much oil for one meal. I think the best way to describe this sandwich is that it's a fun novelty to say you tried once. It came out exactly as we expected, but I don't think we'll do it again.

Chocolate Zucchini Bread I

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2007
Oh, my, this is some awesome, awesome bread. I sugared the pan as suggested , otherwise it was made as written. It is wonderful out of the oven, but even better after a day.

Chicken Alfredo

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2007
This was "different". It was good, but I could taste the cream cheese, which is kind of odd for an Alfredo sauce. I did add 4 cloves of garlic, minced, to chicken as it was cooking and I added some Parmesan to the sauce.

Mom's Mustard Style Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2007
This was just too bland made as is, also as noted, very dry. Doubled the dressing and that helped a bit, but it just didn't have any flavor at all until I added some garlic salt, salt, and red wine vinegar, and then it was barely flavored. I also increased the relish a bit. Just not at all what I was looking for. Not inedible, just not much to it. Won't be making again.

Skillet Beef and Macaroni

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2007
My former mother-in-law gave me this recipe more than 20 years ago and it was a staple for years until I lost the card. It's great to find it again. I always added either fresh garlic with the chopped onion, or alternatively garlic powder, but otherwise, this is pretty much the same recipe. Thanks for helping me find an old favorite.

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2007
The dough is definitely sticky as noted by other reviewers, but the biscuits come out great. I added a little flour during the kneading stage, but not much. Don't be tempted to pat your dough out thinner than 1", your biscuits will not be as fluffy. Also, another reviewer had a great tip -- don't twist the cutter when you're cutting out the biscuits. It seals the edges and they don't rise as well. Kist press it down and lift it back off. Another reviewer suggested cutting the dough with a sharp knife, which would seem to work well too.

Broccoli and Ramen Noodle Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2007
I love the crunchy texture of this salad. I reduced the sunflower seeds to 1/2 cup and used 1/2 cup slivered almonds instad of the peanuts. Even the kids love this one.
