Slow Cooker Chili II

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2005
My fiance and I loved this chili, but I changed a few things... I used ground turkey rather than ground beef, omitted celery, and used one can kidney beans and one can black beans with liquid rather than the beans recommended. Also served over small pasta shells... outstanding!

Peanut Butter Cup Brownies

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2006
My family loved these brownies and they were pretty quick to make. After reading the reviews, I put in an extra egg to make the brownies a little more moist. I filled muffin cups halfway and resulted in 15 brownies. Also I baked 30 minutes, with 15 min on the middle rack of the oven and 15 on an upper rack so they wouldn't burn. They were great.

Grandma's Gingersnap Cookies

These cookies are wonderful!! I didn't change anything in the recipe and they were very flavorful. A great cookie for the fall weather.

Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2006
These were pretty good. The texture is certainly different than most cookies, but I thought that it was an interesting change. I doubled the amount of chocolate chips and am glad that I did because I thought that they needed to be just a touch sweeter. A great cookie selection for the fall!

Cinnamon Pancakes in a Jar

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2006
I often give my family "food in a jar" gifts for Christmas but like to change it up from year to year, so I thought this would be a great recipe. I always try the recipe before giving as a a gift, and I am glad I did with this. They were OK pancakes, but I did not find them to be light enough or sweet enough, although they did have a nice cinnamon taste. I am thinking that I might be able to adapt a different pancake recipe to put in a jar, though, so this is certainly a great idea!

Pancakes on the Go

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2006
These pancakes are very light with a great wholesome texture due to the oatmeal. My husband does not typically care for pancakes but today he had seconds. I think that I will add a teaspoon or two of cinnamon the next time I make these as it will pair well with the brown sugar.

German Sweet Chocolate Cake I

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2007
Everyone loved this cake, even my father-in-law who can be pretty critical of cooks sometimes. The only change I had to make was that it took nearly an hour to cook all the way through in a 9x13. It still turned out lovely, but something to keep in mind.

Orzo Shrimp Stew

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2007
I made this recipe because I had leftover orzo from another dish and wanted to use it up. I didn't think that my husband would like it because of the large amount of broccoli in it, but he loved it! I still think that next time I will add some other veggies and decrease the broccoli.

No Bake Cereal Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2007
My mom made these cereal bars when I was a child. I was hoping they would taste the same as hers; however, I think she used marshmallows instead of corn syrup. I think that the corn syrup gave the bars somewhat of a stale texture/taste. Despite this, there were several people at work who liked them.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2007
I made this for a birthday dinner for my husband's family. My family is somewhat picky about food and I have never cooked for him before, so I was a little nervous about making this meal... the lasagna was a hit! He made several positive comments about it throughout the meal and everyone else loved it as well.

Caldo Gallega

We loved this soup! I used fresh spinach instead of frozen. The chorizo I used was so spicy it gave the whole pot of soup a kick. I will definately make it again.

Cinnamon-Apple Chex® Mix

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2008
This was good, but I microwaved it longer than I was supposed to after adding the apples because they didn't appear brown as the directions said they should. Now some of the apples are hard or too chewy, so next time I will be sure to only microwave it for the time it states.

White Chocolate Pound Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2009
I didn't think this was all that exceptional, although a lot of my family really liked it. I also think that trying to drizzle the chocolate was a pain, next time I would make a glaze to drizzle instead.

Spinach Enchiladas

Delicious! I followed the recipe, mostly. I didn't use any butter, used fresh spinach instead of frozen, and added a chopped poblano pepper. Will definately make again!

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2010
Nice, classic cheesecake. Mine did crack, but I didn't not bother with the water bath-- I figured that it was going to be cut up anyways :) It was smooth and creamy and I thought it was plenty sweet enough. I was a little confused about the amount of graham crackers, I wasn't sure if it was the whole sheets or individual crackers. Obviously it was NOT the whole sheets b/c that was way too much for the crust. Will use those crumbs for a different dessert. Also, next time I would use a 10 inch springform. There was so much batter that the whole thing rose out of the pan during baking and because of this, became a little to o brown around the edges.

Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burgers

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2010
Pretty good recipe, will continue to revise it. I did not freeze before cooking and might try this next time. I substituted a cup of brown rice for the bread crumbs and used egg substitute. Also baked longer than it said, and with the rice, I was able to make 8 patties which reduced the calorie count.

I did not add the sugar, but I followed the rest of the recipe and served it over linguine. Delicious! Hubby loved it and told me at least twice how good it was.

Nice, moist bread. I gave it four stars because I was hoping for more of a pumpkin and spice flavor to it.
