Pumpkin Puree

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
Worked great - I put a little water in the bottom of the cut halves and it helped but may make for a liquidy puree. I'll freeze them in 1 cup amounts and use as needed. Thanks for the very easy no peeling or chopping pumpkin puree!!

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2009
A very good bread. I had old yeast and a cool kitchen so I had to let it rise a looong time. I did cut the sugar (I think in half) and I think it would have been to sweet for sandwich bread otherwise. Tasty with a good crumb and it made beautiful loaves.

Baked French Fries I

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2009
Tasty and I find nothing to change about them. I didn't really measure the spices out, just sprinkled them on in approximation and the seemed to work well. Thanks for the great recipe!

Worked great as a base for Caesar. Still need to try as Italian.

Fried Green Tomatoes

I've never had these before but they were excellent. Yum! I plan on using this recipe and covering them with marinara sauce with cheese on top. I can even envision these on sandwiches. YUM!

Freeze Corn

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2009
Has a lot of fluid that went into the bags and when defrosted and heated in the microwave helped keep the corn nice and moist.

Mom's Brussels Sprouts

Yum. I caramelized them first though and then added the walnuts and sauce. I could have eaten a plate full!

Eileen's Meatloaf

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2009
I changed too much to really be able to honestly rate this. We were pleased so far, but I didn't have real onion soup mix, so I had to make it and I used turkey burger. I also used Italian seasoning and bread crumbs. There was a lot of making do tonight. I think it will be better with a little more flavor. It did hold together well. Made the 2nd time - delicious! Made it with onion soup mix, it was excellent. I think our meatloaf recipe has arrived.

Fantastic Black Bean Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2009
I really liked this and so did my "pumpkin carving" friends. It was easy and served with cornbread muffins - it was an excellent way to eat and carve. The turkey was great for us. I used a can of diced tomatoes with green chilies and once can of pinto beans with some spices added because that's what I had on hand. It made the chili a bit spicier and I thought it was probably better that way.

Tangy Cucumber and Avocado Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2009
I liked it. Simple to make and good as a side. I'm imagining it as a main dish with white beans and provolone...yum! Definitely add the onions, otherwise it will be a little bland.

They were ok. Kind of greasy and low on flavor.

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2009
Excellent crust. I like to freeze half in saran wrap (I've found it works better then wax paper). I let it rise and then punch it down and split it. One half goes right into the oven for about 15 minutes as a prebake before toppings - I've found this just makes a better crust for our taste. I use a deep dish ceramic pie dish. The other half goes right into (tightly wrapped) freezer bag and into the freezer.

It makes a great go-to snack in our house. I really like this recipe, now I just need a better way to shred zukes.

Plum Dumplings

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2007
The taste wasn't bad, and I don't know if I just messed it up, but the dough was not nearly enough to cover all the plums. I could only make 6 dumplings, instead of the 25 that it called for.
