Hot Onion Dip

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2006
This is just OK. Very greasy after being baked. Very bland. No real flavor except onion. Almost needs some red pepper flakes, green onion tops, something. I dont know. Just OK. Decent tasting with pita chips.

Honey Bun Cake I

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2006
This was a good flavored cake, but def does NOT taste like a honey bun. Im sorry, it just doesnt. It tastes and looks like a cinnamon and brown sugar pound cake. Simple as that. My hubby loved the icing and the cinnamon and brown sugar, but i was let down when it tasted NOTHING like a honey bun. LOL

Better Than Sex Cake II

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2006
This was OK. I have had this cake b4 made by my aunt. She uses a whole jar of carmel sauce, now i realize i should have too. We like the cake to get good and gooey. Half of the jar just doesnt do it. Heck, if you like gooey chocolatey cake, use all the caramel and all the SCMilk.

Granny Kat's Pumpkin Roll

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2006
This was soooo good. My hubby who hasnt ever tried a pumpkin roll loved it, and my brother who is picky tried it and LOVED it also. The flavor was full but not harsh. Some pumpkin recipes can be harsh or bitter tasting due to all the spices used. The filling is FAB and creamy and so good. It tasted so good firly warm and fresh and again 2-3 days in the fridge sliced cold. Yummm-E!! Oh, and so easy to make, although if your like me and breeze right through the recipe, you realize later that the powdered sugar you put in the cake batter was supposed to be used for dusting the roll and kitchen towel. Wish the 2 ingredient lists would have been seperated.

Strawberry Cream Roll

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2006
This did not turn out well at all. The cake was very dry and crispy. Very bubbily looking batter, and it came out the same way. Almost grainy in texture. Then when i tried to roll it, it cracked down the middle. I followed all the directions, and have made jelly rolls and pumplin rolls before, and they havent cracked like this one. I really didnt even like the flavor of the cake.

EAGLE BRAND® Banana Cream Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2006
i was leary to make a cream pie of any kind b/c i thought i wouldnt be able to do it. B/c i tend to rush things along, but this was so easy, and the custard was done very quickly. it took longer to bake the pre-made pie crust for 15 minutes than it did to make the custard. my hubby loved this, he ate 2 pieces right away. not too sweet and very creamy. very very good!

Beth's Scalloped Cabbage

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2006
ok you may be leary to try this recipe, but do it. i wasnt sure of it at all, but its really good. my head of cabbage was a little too small, so there was a little too much sauce for me. my hubby loved it. if your family loves cheese, youve got to try this one. it would be so easy to sneak in other veggies with the cabbage, like onions or squash. this would be excellent with yellow summer squash chopped up in it. very good. although i did have to add a touch of cayenne and some pepper. it is VERY important to use american cheese. it makes it smoothe and creamy and not stringy and sharp like cheddar.

Honey Mustard Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2006
I would give this 5 stars, but i changed the amounts a little bit for my taste. I added along with my grainy mustard i added dijon and more honey then called for. Was very good. Especially on chicken strips and salad. I added a little cayenne too. We like a little background heat.

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2006
We thought these were pretty good. Could have used less milk/flour and more cheese. Definatly needed more salt. I added a dash of cayenne, b/c we do that with everything. Very good and golden brown crisp around edges (best part)! Just dont make the mistake i made. I thought "Hmmm this sauce was so good, i'll cook macaroni and use it for baked M&C" Dont do it. Makes a curdled like sauce, gets very very dry and tasteless against all the pasta. Even with more milk and cheese. Just dont do it..... :)

Caramel Shortbread Squares

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2006
These were so good. I wish the carmel layer was thicker. The only thing i didnt like too much was after sitting for a day or two (if they last that long again..LOL) the shortbread layer got very very crumbly. But who cares, eat them over the counter because they are soooo good. The caramel is creamy, and the chocolate (i used milk choc) was smoothe. So delish! But seriously, cut them tiny (they are RICH) and grease your dish WELL, or line with parchment paper. And the beating of the caramel is a must!

Easy Grape Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2006
I used this recipe as a base. I used everything but the marshmallow fluff. I thought it would be way too sweet and sticky, so i subst. cool whip. Was light in some bites and rich and creamy with the cream cheese (left in small chunks) in others. Fiance` loved it. Then i made again same way, but with pecans. If you like nuts, use other kinds, and not slivered. You dont get the full texture effect with slivered.

Apple Strudel Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2006
I really liked the IDEA of these muffins. But something wasnt quite right. Maybe because of my substitutions. I replaced 3/4 of the butter with applesauce and i split the sugar. I did half brown and half white sugar. I thought the brown would add a different sweetness. Well, the muffins were good, but werent as sweet as i had hoped, and im not big on sweeeeeet baked goods. I enjoyed the tops, where all the brown sugar was. The other thing was they were dry. But with a little dab of butter on top and a pop in the microwave for a sec, they were back to moist. Great chunks of apples, loved that. Will try again with butter instead of applesauce.

Fantastic Focaccia Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2006
Im giving this a 3 because its my first time making Focaccia, and well, it was OK. I dont know if it was the recipe or me. It didnt get very thick and fluffy or airy as i hoped it would. It was thicker and a little dry. I was wanting thick chewy bread. Maybe i kneaded it too much, im not sure. Still had good flavor when dipped in marinara sauce. All i added to the dough was italian seasoning and red pepper flake. Had a good bite. Will try again.

Caramel Popcorn

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2006
I made this popcorn while i was camping in a camper, i do not recommend that!! LOL....It took FOREVER to bake, but was worth it. All the families we were camping with kept fighting over the popcorn container. "Who has the bucket, who has it now, i want more popcorn, pass it over here" is all i heard for a good hour. Very crispy if baked long enough, great carmel flavor, not too sweet. Great!

Eggless Chocolate Cake II

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2006
This was OK. Had a good taste, but a little dry. I made cupcakes with this recipe. The very center was fairly moist, but the tops and sides were down right crispy. And the batter stuck to the baking cups very badly. So i recommend if you want cupcakes, just PAM your muffin tins and dont use paper cups. Maybe a 9x13 cake would keep more moisture better than cupcakes. Probably so. They definately need to be frosted. I did mine was store bought vanilla. Tasted good!! :) I didnt make this due to an egg allergy, its b/c i ran outta eggs. Bummer!

Banana Peanut Butter Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2006
This bread was pretty good. Although i thought it would NEVER get done baking. Very dense and moist. Fall apart moist actually. Good flavor. I did as others recommended with more banana and more PB. But after eating one small slice, it was enough. Very filling. Wouldnt be something i make all the time.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2006
I dont know why they say these are chewy. I could see how they should have been with all the fat and oil that is used. But they went from right out of the oven to hard as a rock in a matter of 20 minutes. I took them to my brothers house for supper, and a little girl there couldnt eat one b/c she couldnt chew it b/c they were so hard. And i followed the recipe exactly. So i dont know. I may give them one more try. And maybe back off on flour or something.

Crabby Cream Cheese Wontons

Reviewed: May 30, 2006
I've made these before and they are good. Try buying baby shrimp in a can and mince instead of crab. Tastes good too and not as expensive if you buy real lumb crab meat. Great with warm sweet and sour sauce to dip in.

Todd's Famous Blueberry Pancakes

Reviewed: May 30, 2006
Came out very bland. I added more blueberries than called for. Still bland. Made a few pancakes and sampled, realized they were too cakey tasting, so i added sugar to them. Still, not very tasty. Maybe with really sweet syrup or something it would help. Or a dusting of powdered sugar. MAYBE it would help.

Cheddar Bay Biscuits

Reviewed: May 30, 2006
These were Okay. Little to no flavor. I made the batch as directed, and baked 2 to try it out. Ended up adding a lot more cheese, minced fresh garlic, parsley and garlic powder and a touch of onion powder to the baking mix itself. Melted butter, added more minced garlic and powders and parsley and brushed on top. With so much garlic, it still wasnt STRONG. Tasted much better after adding all the other stuff. On a few, i dusted them with cayenne. We like spicy.
