California Crescent Sandwiches

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2011
I am giving this 4 stars simply because of the IDEA of it. Using the crescents for bread. Genius!!! Same flavor/texture of a croissant, but less mess, flaking and easier to bite. I added "fillings" because that's what I do...LOL I added sliced tomato, bacon, Duke's mayo, salt and pepper. I did not use guacamole. I simply sliced avocados and layered into the sandwich. I also added in a little black forest ham, because that's what we like.

Crisp Onion Relish

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2011
The only reason I am giving this 3 stars is that I did not use the mayo. Just didn't sound like a good addition. I did all the other stuff though. And it was awesome!! We had it with hamburgers and we plan on having this relish with BBQ.

Apple Braised Pork

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2011
I am only giving this recipe 3 stars because I had to do quite a bit to it, to give it flavor. I added one chicken base cube, 1/4 c white wine, a bay leaf, more pepper, more salt and also a sprinkle of poultry seasoning because I didn't have plain sage. (yuck) I also used a bit more meat, so I added one more apple (granny smith). I subbed the concentrate juice for Simply Apple juice (which is FANTASTIC, by the way). My guys said that it would have been any more sweet, it would have been gross. But with the wine, chicken cube, and bay, I think it made it just savory enough. A must with mashed potatoes. *“I am an Allrecipes Allstar Brand Ambassador (a voluntary position) and I’m not compensated for my work with Allrecipes.com"*

Sausage Steamed Dinner

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2011
I left out the rutabagas and turnips. I live in a VERY small town and we very rarely can get anything like that. I also added chunks of bacon and we ate the sausage on the side. In a round-about way, a very hearty meal. Easy too.

Popeye Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2011
This is nothing like Popeye's chicken. Popeye's chicken is spicy and very savory. I did leave out the onion soup mix. I was worried about the big flakes of dried onion. I also used large chicken tenders instead of a whole breast, so that I could cook it faster. Not what I was expecting.

Bubba's Jambalaya

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2010
This was just okay. I did not use the beef broth....Just doesn't sound good for a shrimp/pork/chicken dish. Needs diced tomato and crushed tomato. Just wish rice wouldn't go to mush so quickly. Basmati is usually a good choice...but even in this it went to mush. And I didn't stir it a lot either.

'Chinese Buffet' Green Beans

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2010
I gave 2 stars only because this was KIND OF close to buffet beans.......The flavor just wasn't there. Our local buffet actually flash FRIES the beans first...then "dresses" them with a sauce......

Chocolate Mint Cookies I

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2010
These are really good.....I used the Andes baking pieces......Which was a pain in the butt....Trying to get the pieces to stay on top of the puffy cookie.....Next time I will use half a real (rectangle) Andes or horizontally cut a York patty mint.....Very good cookie though. Make sure you use good semi sweet chips.....b/c the chocolate flavor really comes out......

Devil's Steak Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2010
Pretty good!!! Made this with cider vinegar and ketchup instead of malt and tomato sauce. I doubt you could tell a difference. Ate this on grilled pork rib eyes! Hubby said he didn't think it would be good on beef....but we loved it on the pork. Will make again!

Tail Burner Firehouse French Fries

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2010
We really didn't like these.........I used fresh russets and sliced into steak fries....baked with olive oil....I guess we basically just used the recipe for the seasoning..not the method.....Didn't love the lemon pepper.......Like it on fish..but not fries.

Slider-Style Mini Burgers

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2010
These were pretty good....I didn't use as much cheddar as it called for......we'd rather have american slices on top of meat than inside the meat mixture.....so that's what I did....put 1/4 cup cheddar for the binding..and topped with american slices on top...........topped it off with a dill pickle....Pretty tasty!

Macaroni Gratinee

Quick and easy weeknight throw-together! Needs a lot more seasoning. I used tomato puree and a can of diced tomatoes. Perfect thickness to hold on to the noodles.

Cherry-Blueberry Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2010
I just made this for my cherry pie disliking family. I made it as a compromise. I love cherry pie, they hate it, they love blueberry pie, I hate it. We all LOVED this pie. I put a little too much cornstarch in but I probably would do it again b/c I can't stand runny fruit pie. If I wanted that, I'd make cobbler. This was a good recipe. A good basic, basic flavor recipe.

Spiced Applesauce Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2010
This bread was pretty good. I put in a lot more spice than it called for, and I kind-of think it needed some more. This would be fantastic with some diced apple or grated apple. The pecans in it are great! I also took some brown sugar and sprinkled it on top to make a yummy crispy crust on top. Fantastic. Great with a little spread of Brummel & Brown Yogurt Butter. If you haven't tried it, you really should!!!

Pistachio Cake III

Reviewed: May 16, 2010
This cake was VERY good! I had no issues of the cake falling. It actually rose higher than most cakes I've made. I think people are just doing something wrong. The only part of the recipe that I didn't follow was using a beater or standmixer. I used a good ol whisk and some elbow grease to mix it for 2-3 minutes. VERY GOOD!

Indian Chicken Curry II

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2009
This was a different flavor for my family. They seemed to like it though. I really think it needed some red bell pepper, or something to add some heat. Maybe some cayenne. The only thing I did different was OMITTED the sugar. It did not need it at all. The coconut milk has sweetness of it's own. It was really good with the coconut rice I made to eat it over. Yum.....Makes me want to try more "indian" recipes.

Sweet and Sour Meatloaf

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2009
My family loves this recipe. I do NOT cook it in the micro. I just think that sounds HORRID! But baking it at 350* for a while is perfect. I do add a few more things that we like, spice and such. I add a dash of this and a dash of that into the topping b/c we like those things. But the onion soup mix makes it SO easy. And I use the whole thing. Usually I use a half # of beef and a whole # of turkey. This makes it hearty, yet a little healthier for my family. I love to pot the oven on broil for just a few seconds at the end, and get the ends all crispy and brown. YUM YUM. My stepson always says, "I know, I know, you get the butts!" LOL If I "slave" over that stove, I DESERVE THE GOOD PARTS! HaHa!! Anyhow, it's so flippin' easy and good. Try it!!!
