Home Made Mayonnaise

Reviewed: May 23, 2013
bahhh. it was sour... but i could play around with the recipe and find the right flavors... but it would be nice to know exactly how much salt to add... i found the lemon juice too powerful. i also used an immersion blender - i do for most things.... such easier clean up!

MMMMM... Brownies

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2012
too chocolatey - i might like it better with milk chocolate chips and mixed in with some cream... also, i think it needs more butter... and it was really crumbly.

Sugar Cookie Icing

worked well, and it did dry out but i had to add quite a bit more syrup to get it stirable... otherwise i'd give it 5 stars.

Bread Machine Thin Crust Pizza Dough

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2011
was okay. but doesn't compare to restaurant pizza dough. maybe it's because i don't have a stone oven or maybe it's because it was really sticky and i'm used to using doughs with a bit of oil added... i dunno.

Peanut Butter Banana Protein Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2011
the batter was really crumbly so I had to add about 1/2 cup more honey and some applesauce to it. I also added some cinnamon for taste. I think these bars have some potential... i'm gonna play around with the flavors a bit as I still found them on the bland side even after adding all that honey...

Plantation-Style Vanilla Lemonade

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2010
good but not a very strong vanilla taste - i don't think i could taste it at all... and it was a lot of work... i think i'd rather just squeeze my lemons and zest them than puree the whole thing in the blender and then i could skip the step where you strain it... which was kind of messy

Tasty Fried Eggplant Balls

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2010
my husband says that was pretty good for eggplant - he's not an eggplant fan. I thought it was a lot of work... it did taste a lot like Dutch bitterballen - (sort of croquet) and it was pretty good eaten with chili sauce and bbq sauce. I may make it again if I have the time... but i may use peeled, chopped zucchini in place of the green pepper - just cause when kids see "green" in the food they don't want to eat it [crazy kids].

Red Raspberry Vinaigrette

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2010
I didn't have seasoned rice vinegar so I used a combination of vinegars i had on hand - regular rice vinegar, lemon-fennel vinegar, apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar and the taste came out superb. i love that it is so easy to put together - i also used grapeseed oil.

Yogurt Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2010
Lately, I've been baking a lot of vegan cakes and they don't really stand up quite as good as cakes with eggs - so when I found this recipe I thought I'd try it because it contains yogurt and that is something I almost always have - I never have sour cream... I used regular vanilla yogurt, and vanilla extract - no lemon for me... and this cake was just the perfect consistency - it held up very well and it tasted so perfect and yummy - i will definitely add it to my permanent recipe book - and use it again and again... hey maybe next time i'll try it with strawberry yogurt and strawberry extract just to give it a little something extra ;)

South Indian Lentil Kootu

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2010
i used brown lentils in place of pigeon peas, and 1.5 tsp curry powder in place of curry leaves, and 1 tbsp sambal in place of red pepper flakes, and 1 full tsp salt - i didn't have fresh coconut so i just poured in about 1/4 cup the fat from coconut milk - everything else i left the same. I did have to add extra water during cooking - 2 cups was just not enough - it simmered out too quickly. anyways, it was good - better than expected and we served it with cornmeal and poppyseed roti from veganomican cookbook - very delcious combo. it's very filling - although not something i'd want to eat all the time - lentils have a very distinct flavor and they are not my favorite but i try to eat them now and again b/c they are good for you and when you choose the vegetarian lifestyle it's nice to try something different once in a while. I have a lot of leftovers and i think i'll make it into soup - i'll add some vegetable broth and chopped tomatoes - and we will use up the rest of the roti as dipping bread then.

Chocolate Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2008
Delicious - i didn't follow the recipe exactly though... i used the advice of another reviewer and used 1/2 cup corn syrup, 1/2 cup milk and 1/4 cup water in place of all water. Love this stuff!

The Most Awesome Smoothie You'll Ever Make

not my favorite - and definitely not the most awesome smoothie - i think i'd definitely have to get used to the "healthy" taste of it... i might try it again without the peanut butter.

Tofu Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2007
really good... i did add some raspberry sauce on top - i think it needs the raspberry sauce - it really compliments it. i'd probably make it again but i'd probably use maple syrup in place of the sugar.
