Pesto Chicken Penne Casserole

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2014
I really liked this recipe. I made my own pesto, without nuts, to be roughly the amount called for, about a cup and a half. I didn't think it was too much. I also made my own alfredo and bread crumbs which did make more work and clean up, but end product was great, and love all the leftovers. Once thing I would change is to use less chicken, probably about half. Overall great recipe!

Debdoozie's Blue Ribbon Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2013
This is the second time I made this basic chili for a competition and the second time I won. I did make my own customizations to the recipe but I think it would have won anyway without my changes. I added 3 cloves crushed garlic to beef/onion mix. I used diced tomatoes instead of sauce to make a chunky chili. I used 4 cans of the diced tomatoes and 2 cans diced green chilies. I used two cans of pinto beans and 1 can of red kidney beans. I made my own chili mix from a recipe on this site. I added 2-4 T of maple syrup (I don't like sugar) which I think is important to cut the acid flavor in the tomatoes and I used 2 jars of salsa, one mild and one medium. I added salt as needed, and it was needed. This filled my 6 quart crockpot. One hour before the end of cooking time I added three diced bell peppers, one red, one yellow and one orange. This makes it look beautiful and adds that winning touch!

Cha Cha's White Chicken Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2013
I used this recipe for the first time and it is delicious. I made a couple changes. I did follow Cathy's suggestion to sub in mild green chiles if you don't like it too hot. I only used 1/4 tsp of cayenne. I had two pounds of ground chicken on hand so browned that with the onion and garlic. I added in 2T of maple syup and at the end of cooking time, one cup of whole cream. It is delicious and even better the second day. I also did not put the cheese into the pot but had people add their own. Worked great.

Spinach Tomato Tortellini

Reviewed: May 27, 2011
Thanks for the great recipe. It was so quick to make and really yummy. I subsituted a 12 oz can of evaporated skim milk in place of the cream and milk because I had it on hand, and I'm watching calories. I calculated the caleries and divided into 4 servings came to 333 calories per serving the way I made it.

Easy Slow Cooker French Dip

Reviewed: May 14, 2011
Great Recipe! I made it according to the recipe the first time and this time I am making it with Lance's French Onion soup as the base. I did add onion powder, garlic powder and worchestershire as others have done. I wanted to mention that this freezes well and tastes great as leftovers too!

Spoiled Baby Back Ribs

Reviewed: May 14, 2011
Just took them out of the oven and they are delicioius! I roasted the ribs for 90 minutes at 325 in a roasting pan, then grilled on charcoal grill for flavor, then put back in the oven covered in sauce and roasted another 45 minutes at 325, then broiled about 5 minutes. I know it's not quite according to the recipe. The sauce is great and became milder after roasting. I used honey instead of brown sugar. I doubled the amount of ribs and tripled the sauce recipe. I didn't leave the sauce cook down for 30 minutes, but it did cook down while roasting. This is the first time I've ever made ribs and I will use this recipe again. Thank you for sharing it.

The Amazing Swedish Meatball

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2011
As I read what other reviewers said about the salt in this recipe I was curious and so checked my 1976 Betty Crocker cookbook. I was surprised to find it is the identical recipe with the exception of the amount of salt and pepper. It used the same amount of salt in the meatballs but only 1/8 tsp of pepper and the sauce uses 1/2 tsp salt and 1/8 tsp of pepper. I did use this recipe then making a couple of changes from other recipes and reviews I read. I sauteed the onions first, used broth in the sauce instead of water and used 2/3 butter and 1/3 oil. It tastes good but I am taking it for a lunch at work tomorrow so will know then how everyone likes it. I'm going to add a little nutmeg as well. I'm sure the basic recipe is good if salt and pepper are modified.

Chicken Voila

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2010
Pretty bland. Chicken breasts don't yield much flavor for a gravy. I can think of better ways to use chicken breasts. I think the picture gives a good idea of what it will taste like.

One-For-All Marinated Beef

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2010
I love this simple marinade and have used it several times now. Really great on chicken breasts. I use honey instead of sugar. I did try it on round steak, which I think is similar to flank and even marinating for a long time was still tough. But loved the flavor. Just read the review about adding port wine and will try that next time.

Incredible Chicken

Very simple and delicious. Nice way to make something a little different. My son who says he doesn't like things sweet liked this. I also did not measure, just sprinkled. The flavors are very subtle.

Ho Ho Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2008
I made this for a family gathering last night and everyone loved. I made it according to the recipe. I didn't read the reviews first and did have some lumps in my flour mixture, not too many and removed them. I liked the blander taste of the cream filling, because the rich chocolate filling works with it to make a good combination. I had no trouble spreading the chocolate mixture over the cream filling. Not a health food but would recommend for a decadent dessert!

Peach-a-Berry Pie

Good pie. I added a teaspoon of corn starch because I know peach pies tend to be runny and I did not have time to drain the fresh peaches. Turned out good. Forgot the butter, will try again with.

Delicious, got rave reviews from the family. This recipe was very easy to make, and makes two pies which is a plus when serving a group, or you can save one for later. Will be making this again.

Ice Cream Snowball Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2007
My family loved this and it was so quick and easy to make, but looked really good. Delicious, will make again. I did use chocolate chips instead of sweet German chocolate. Only took 5 minutes to set the crust. I made it after dinner and served immediately.

Slow Cooker Chicken Cacciatore

Reviewed: May 12, 2007
I have made this for work and am always asked for the recipe. It's easy to make. As others recommended I added the mushrooms an hour before the end and also used thighs and breasts in order to get the flavor from the bones. Melt cheese on top, and yum, really good.
