Pork Chops and Scalloped Potatoes

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2001
I have been making this for a couple of years now. To keep the meat moist, place the browned meat on the bottom of the pan with the sliced potatoes on the top and pour the sauce over everything. Way better this way.

Slow Cooker Baked Beans

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2004
I have only tasted a few Tbsp. of this recipe and I am impressed considering I screwed up at the beginning. I didn't read the whole recipe and added the ketchup and mustard at the beginning. Opps, it took over 7 hours for the beans to be fully cooked even though I soaked them overnight. Make sure you add enough water to the beans if soaking them overnight. I didn't and the next morning there was almost none. That might have effected the cooking time the next day. Leave a couple inches of extra water on top of the beans. Th two pork hocks I used were big and I was surprised how much meat I was able to get off them. The meat just fell off. When the beans were finally cooked I added the same amount of ketchup and mustard again and some water because it was way too thick. Cooked another 30 mins. and it was done. Froze all of it for lunches. So thanks for the recipe. Grab the Beano and enjoy!!!! Michele, Cambridge, ontario

Sweet and Spicy Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2011
Used 1 tbsp brown suger and 1 tsp cinnamon as suggested. Didn't have any poultry seasoning. Had almost a full bowl of cubed potatoes. Used just over half of the spices that were all mixed together in a small bowl, seemed like a lot of spice on the potatoes without using the remaining spices. Will save for next time. Everyone liked them.

We found this dish didn't have enough spag.sauce and I had used a little more than it called for. I will make it again but I will add 50% more sauce than it calls for. I also doubled the garlic.Michele, Ontario

Pork Tenderloin Marinade

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2005
We felt the liquid smoke was too overbearing. My husband said it almost tasted like a hotdog!!! That can't be good. Also very salty. Marinated it for about 5 hours. I cut the ingredients in half and used two tenderloins. We prefer Grilled Pork tenderloin by Cathy from this site. Oh well, now I know. Thanks anyway. Michele, Cambridge ontario

Graham Crisps

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2006
Yummy!!! Don't worry about spreading it out perfectly. When it cooks it spreads really well anyway. Next time I will try pecans. Update: love it with pecans. Lined cookie sheet with parchment paper. When done just lift the whole parchment out with crisps and let cool on counter, maybe place a towel down first, they are hot!!! I read someone sprinkled chocolate chips on top, might try that too!!!

Canadian Barn BBQ Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2004
Made this again with the ribs and this time we felt they were a little too sweet. After reading the reviews about how sweat it was I cut back the brown sugar to 1 1/2 cups. Mixed everything together in bowl. Cut up ribs into two's, boiled baby back ribs (3 racks) for about 30 mins. Tossed sauce with the ribs in a roasting pan. Cooked for 1 hour with the lid on at 350 degrees. Took lid off and cooked for another 45 mins. at 325 degrees until carmelized. These were the best ribs I think I have ever had. We all can't wait to have them again. I only use pork baby back ribs because they are leaner. Can't wait to try the sauce on chicken also!! Thanks Wendy for a great sauce!! Update Sept.20/08-Made this again, haven't for a long time and now we find it way too sweet. I have been using Presidents Choice Smokin Stampede Chipotole for the last year and it's the best. I even cut the brown sugar in half again, sooo sweet, sorry not for us. Michele, Cambridge, Ontario Thanks Wendy

Grandma's Yorkshire Pudding

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2006
Doubled recipe which made 12.Saved the grease from the roast for gravy. Put 1 tsp. canola oil into each muffin tin and heated in 450 degree oven for 5 mins. Then quickly poured in batter. Took out 5 mins early because it was really browning but I should have cooked a little longer, there were a few that were a little wet. Overall, excellent and tasty. Will use this recipe everytime we have roast beef. UPDATE: first time I have used the drippings from the roast and I tried using the convection setting for the oven and the yorkshires were the highest and the best ever!!! Was it the drippings or the convection method that made then rise higher?? Also cooked way faster this way. 18mins or so. Update:cooked them on lowest rack setting, down with 8 mins left and nice and crispy!! Thanks, Michele, Cambridge, Ontario

Grilled Shrimp and Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2002
I thought the recipe called for too much pasta. I also couldn't get the sauce to thicken. The recipe doesn't say to discard the wine when done cooking the chicken, it should, or did I do it wrong? Overall we did like it and it was better the next day but I had to make up some more sauce. Would make it again with some adjustments. We also cut up the chicken before tossing it with the pasta and sauce. Michele, Cambridge, Ontario

Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2001
this recipe doesn't say how much nuts to use. I put in 1/2 cup. My 2lb. bread machine took about 30minutes before the beep to add the nuts and raisins. The rest was really easy also. Everyone really liked it just out of the oven. I'm sure it will be good toasted. Thanks Michele

After-Christmas Turkey Potpie

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2008
Very good and really easy!! Bought a Tenderflake frozen double pie crust. I should have brought the top pie shell to room temperature because it came out of the oven with a little funny bump on it. Other than that it was a big hit in the family.

Beef Barley Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2003
I read the reviews and decided to use 2 lbs. cubed stewing meat. I put everything into the slow cooker except the barley and bay leaf. I also put in 2 med. size potatoes and 1 tbsp worchestire sauce. I used about 1 1/2 cups of peas and 1 cup of green beans (frozen) instead of the mixed veggies. I Have a 4 quart slow cooker, the soup was right to the top and was bubbling over a few times. I cooked this on high because it seemed to take hours to get going. I left it on high for approx. 7 hours. If you have a huge slow cooker and there is lots of room leftover then I would cook this on low for around 5 hours. I think I need the 6 quart cooker now so I can increase the size of this soup, it is excellent according to my family, and I think so to. Served warm buns with it. Michele, ontario, canada

Peppered Shrimp Alfredo

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2007
This was good but I don't think we will make it again. It felt guily eating it. Had to make my own alfredo sauce because hubby bought marinara sauce by accident. Used 1/2 & 1/2 cream and only 1/4 tsp. cayenne which was enough for us. We prefer the seafood fettuccine by Leslie Ann Update: made again and used canned alfredo sauce and broccoli instead of red peppers. Didn't use too much pepper. Very good.
