Basic Flaky Pie Crust

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2011
Wow! So easy and so good! I used half butter and half Crisco and it turned out flaky and amazing. The reviewer who said this crust wouldn't work for a double crust pie was crazy. It was perfect.

Best. Salmon. Ever. Only thing I changed was to add a little lemon zest and cook on the grill in a foil pouch. Incredible.

Navy Bean Soup I

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2011
Incredible with a few tweaks. I soaked some mixed beans overnight, then I cooked the ham bone with the initial ingredients and six cups of liquid (three chicken stock, three water. Added an extra clove of garlic, and tossed in three chopped carrots and some lentils about 45 min before it was done. Never added the last three cups of water. Incredible, and flavorful.

Pumpkin Pancakes

WOW! Rave reviews from the whole family. Per other reviews I added an extra egg, 2 tsp. each powder & soda, and extra spices to suit my tastes, plus mini chocolate chips, cause that's how I roll.

Szechwan Shrimp

We found this dish very bland. Had to add a hearty helping of soy sauce once it was served to make it taste.

Baker's Secret Pie Crust

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2009
If you're a first time pie maker like me, make sure you cut up your butter into small slices before you add it to the flour or it won't break up right. I had to scrap my first crust because it took too much mixing when I just stuck the whole stick in (hey, I didn't know any better). And don't use all of the liquid, just enough to make the dough stick together when lightly turning it in with a fork. Delicious crust for my first pie!

Tangy Grilled Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2009
Wow! Definitely boil the leftover marinade and use it as a sauce. Make sure if you grill to cook it on the top rack rather than right over the flame or the outside will burn like mine did, but it was still wonderful. Imagine if I had cooked it right the first time!

Baked Potato Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2009
Would be 5 stars, but I think 1 tsp of basil would be overpowering. I followed other reviews and used 1/2 tsp and it was great. I didn't have cream, so I used 1/2 c milk and 1/2 c sour cream. Also added extra bacon and grated cheese to the soup as well as using it for a garnish. Definitely not low calorie, but an awesome, hearty, comforting soup!

Michelle's Coconut Chicken Curry

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2009
To make it super easy, I threw my frozen chicken breasts in the crock pot with everything else, including potatoes, carrots, bell peppers, some ginger, extra curry and garlic, and left it on low for several hours, then shredded the chicken, mixed it all together, cooked a few more hours. I thickened it with corn starch since I like my curry a bit thicker, and served over jasmine rice (made with coconut oil... delicious!).

Tex-Mex Turkey Soup

This soup lacked a lot of flavor. I ended up adding several teaspoons of taco seasoning, which helped, but it was never great. Edible, but I would not make again.

Autumn Apple-Squash Crisp

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2008
Very different and original, great fall desert. I baked the squash at 400 for an hour and 15 min, which is MUCH easier than trying to peel it raw then steam it. Just scoop out the filling directly into your food processor (but only use about 3 1/2 cups since it's not cubed and raw). The nutmeg was a bit overpowering, so I'd reduce it to 1 tsp. Tastes a bit like sweet potato pie...wonderful!
