Grateful Dead

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2005
This was ok at best in my opinion. The concept seems great & the flavor is nice BUT it is just way too sweet for me. If I made it again, I think I would omit the triple sec since it is primarily a sweetener.

the name says it all! This is the best cake! I wouldn't change a thing & even my husband likes it who usually doesn't bother with cake.

French Pastry Pie Crust

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2005
This is the best pie crust! Beautiful & flaky! I especially like it with a berry filling, it seems to really compliment the tart berries. It is also good for an apple pie, much better than the old standard pie crust. I have already had many compliments on my crust, it has now replaced my 'old standard'; Betty crocker crust...It is definately a keeper! It ended my years of making an ugly pie that tasted ok, now I can make a beautiful pie that tastes incredible! The only change I make is that I brush the crust with milk & sprinkle turbinado sugar on top before baking.

Peanut Butter Popcorn

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2006
This is really good! I made a few changes; I had to substitute mini marshmallows & used 200 of them. & I didn't use the microwave but rather cooked the mixture on the stove until it bubbled so the sugar would disolve completely. & It seemed very gooey after I mixed it into the popcorn so I followed the advice to bake it in the oven for 30 minutes. WONDERFUL! I will keep this recipe on hand for filling gift bags for holidays!

Seminary Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2006
These are amazing! I made a few changes to make them even healthier; I used whole wheat flour & chopped dark chocolate pieces instead of regular choco chips. The kids & hubby LOVE them for breakfast or just anytime & I can feel good about filling them with something healthy!

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2006
This was quite tastey. I used 4 chicken breasts & they turned out very moist & flavorful & I even had enough sauce left to pour over rice. I have had better teriyaki when I was in Hawaii but this is very good. My biggest complaint is that is took me forever to clean out my glass pyrex afterwards. I would suggest using some parchment paper under the chicken to keep the sugars from burning onto the pan to make cleanup easier.

Walnut Cinnamon Swirl

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2006
This is a wonderful recipe! It isn't too sweet & it is beautiful to look at. I made it using wheat flour (minus the raisins) & it turned out very nice. I did have to cover it for the last few minutes as the walnuts started to burn. I will definately make this one again!

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2006
Good. I was looking for a huckleberry muffin but they are hard to find so I just used this one & it worked great with the tart huckleberries! I would think this would work with most any fruit as the flavor & texture is very good.

Easy Pork Chop Casserole

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2006
Great recipe! I only used 1 cup of water & the sauce turned out very nice. Next time I will only put in 1/2 of the soup mix as it was very salty as others have mentioned. Both of my kids loved it! I didn't have time to make rice so I just boiled some ramen noodles (no seasoning) & some green beans...put some meat & sauce over the noodles & put a little sauce on the beans. It was very good. I will definately make it again but next time in the crock pot so the meat will be even more tender. The cooking time was probably only 45 minutes. Thanks for the great recipe!

Cinnamon Ice Cream

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2006
This is a wonderful recipe! The flavor & texture are very good. I could see this accompanying most any fruit pie but it is also good on its own! My picky husband thought it was very cinnamony, so if you aren't crazy about cinnamon, you might want cut back on it. Thank you for this fantastic recipe!!!

Blueberry Buttermilk Coffeecake

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2006
This is a fantastic recipe! The cake was very lofty & yet dense like a coffee cake should be. It had 'rave' reviews from my family & friends; this one is a keeper!

Stephanie's Freezer Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2006
Great basic recipe! Next time I will double the garlic; the sauce was wonderful but it needed more garlic for our tastes. Thanks for the perfect way to empty my garden & fill my freezer with a healthy sauce that I can use for pizzas, lasagna, spaghetti or just dipping bread in, YUM!

Banana Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2006
I am sure that this is very good in its original state but I used the suggestions of other reviewers & my own. I used butter instead of shortening & only 1/4 cup. I used only brown sugar & cut it to 2/3 of a cup, I used 3 bananas & I added one egg. I also didn't bother frosting it. The bars came out great, I suspect they are fluffier than the original recipe with the help of the egg. I will definately make them again & again! Thanks for the inspiration!

Chicken Tortilla Soup I

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2006
This is an incredible recipe! My whole family loves it (that is no small feat). I did add a can of black beans & more chicken (4 breasts total). The flavor is fantastic & not too spicy for the kids. This one's a keeper!

Pizza Dough II

Excellent dough recipe! It was very good as a pizza crust & then I refrigerated the rest of the dough & made a french bread out of it the next night. Very versatile & good texture - I will definately use this one again!

Warm and Spicy Autumn Punch

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2006
This is the best apple cidar type punch I have ever had. I love the pineapple flavor, it adds another dimension to this traditional drink. I did not precook the oranges but rather I put all the ingredients into the crock pot the night before & let it slowly cook. The only changes I made is that I don't add the nutmeg & I double the recipe as it seems to make very small portions. It has been a big hit at parties! I also have found that it is very soothing for colds & sore throats. I find I can also make it with ground cloves & a bit of orange juice to replace the whole oranges. I have also added rum to make a warm, adult drink. & I am thinking that if I add a good red wine that it will make good mulled wine - so many possibilities with this recipe! This is a wonderful, tart wintery drink, I can't imagine why anybody wouldn't like it!

Chocolate Cherry Cake III

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2006
This is a fantastic recipe! & if you omit the frosting, it is very low in fat! The cake is moist & it tastes just like a chocolate covered cherry! I was not particularly thrilled with the frosting. I made a bundt cake & it was too thick to drizzle. In the future, I will use a chocolate glaze instead. It is also very good with just whip cream so you could omit the frosting & use fat free cool whip & you would have an awesome lowfat treat! Thanks for this yummy recipe, it will go into my files!
