I lost 90 pounds over three years! I attribute my success to exercise and smart eating, which includes smart cooking. I've always LOVED to cook and to eat, and now I take so much pleasure in cooking for my loved ones and in learning as much as I can about eating well. I work as a Wellness Coordinator, creating and implementing programs for companies to help their workforce and families become more well. I get to share and swap recipes with lots of interesting folks! I got married in April of this year, and my husband is very supportive of everything that happens in the kitchen!
My favorite things to cook
I love to make ice cream in the maker I inherited from my grandmother. I also love to cook everyday-type dishes, but to make them special, too. Any new challenge is always fun! My cornbread and pimento cheese are very popular. Now that I'm married, I have a ton of new gadgets that I love using for special occasions -- the fondue pot, the bread maker, and my stepdaughters are BIG fans of the waffle iron.
My favorite family cooking traditions
As I've become an adult, our cooking traditions have changed. Since 2000, I have cooked Thanksgiving dinner for my parents and family -- they come to me! We also enjoy a big breakfast together on special occasions. My dad is great with the grill and the slow cooker, my mom can stir-fry anything. My friends and I love going to NASCAR races and other auto races. Tailgating is a blast, and now we like to make delicious, nearly-gourmet food to take to the track.
My cooking triumphs
My very first Thanksgiving dinner is my biggest triumph. I did everything, and it turned out great! Also, when my grandparents were ill, I cooked soups and other good foods for them and for my mom and aunt, which was special to me. I also made my boyfriend a shrimp and garlic meal that we joke "made him fall in love with me!" That's a pretty big triumph, I guess!
My cooking tragedies
I tried to "lighten up" a vanilla-buttermilk ice cream recipe. It was all ice and no cream! Yuck! I also got way too heavy-handed with the wasabi powder in some mashed potatoes for my boyfriend ... oh dear ... well, he eventually married me, so I guess he wasn't too burned!
