About this Cook
I'm currently an undergrad at a beautiful little liberal arts college called Linfield. I'm pretty busy, both schoolwise (double majoring in Economics and Business, with a minor in Studio Art) and extracurricularwise (student government, clubs, everything!)... but I always make time for homecooked meals and the farmer's market. I love the sound of sizzling garlic and the smell of fresh baked anything! My parents own ice cream and sandwich stores back home.
My favorite things to cook
veggie-ful soups, stir fries, and casseroles (I eat meat, but if given the choice, I opt for tofu or fish); "healthy" takes on biscuits, muffins, and cookies.... I'm always tweaking recipes; my mom taught me well- I'm all about figuring out how to use ingredients on hand! I love trying new cuisines, with lots of herbs and spices... and I love spicy foods! Some specific faves: vegetarian chili, crustless spinach quiche, stir fry broccoli, oven roasted and carmelized onions and bell peppers
My favorite family cooking traditions
sitting around the kitchen table folding lots and lots of wonton; baking cookies (from a young age) while it's raining outside; husking corn or green beans on the kitchen floor; finding new ways to use the persimmons, nectarines, and Meyer lemons from our trees in the backyard
My cooking triumphs
I haven't done anything huge yet, but every meal is a little triumph, and I love savoring each one... it may sound silly, but I'm really glad I was "forced" into cooking when I moved out of the dorms and into an apartment- it helped me grow up and utilize my creativity
My cooking tragedies
No major tragedies in my mind... yet... but I distinctly remember a time when I was younger and I put a tablespoon of vanilla extract into the frosting instead of a teaspoon- I felt so bad about it! Now, I've definitely learned to overcome little things like that, though.
