I am 24 years old and a newlywed, military wife. I grew up in a small town and come from a fairly large family. The women in my family are exceptional cooks and bakers, all that I have learned comes from family recipies dating back as far as the 18th century. My heritage is Mexican/Indian so our foods are very spicy and hot. I LOVE to read...you will always find me with my nose in a book. My favorites are books about real people and real events. I also LOVE to exercise. With my husband being in the military, and the profession that he is in requires him to be VERY physically fit, therefore, I accompany him to the gym and on 3 mile runs daily.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook are foods that reflect my heritage. Fried Bread, Indian Tacos, Enchiladas, the list goes on and on. Being in a different country, we are not always able to find the ingredients needed for a certain meal, so I have started to experiment with different ingredients to try and make a recipe my own. I am very interested in learning to cook Japanese food so that when I return to the states I can share this fabulous food with my family.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Favorite family cooking traditions happen year round. The biggest of them happens around the Christmas holiday. Several weeks before Christmas the women get together to make impanadas, tamales, bisccochitos, and many other traditional foods. On Christmas Day the men in my family spend all day cooking the lamb and beef underground, that we will eat in our dinner that night. Each female is reponsible for contributing a favorite dish. Mine is Posole and Asado (Pork w/ Red Chili)
My cooking triumphs
My cooking triumphs come when I have "experimented" with different ingredients or found a recipe on the internet that I have never heard of or tried, and I see in my husband's eyes and by the fact that he returns for 2nd's and 3rd's, that he loves it and I have done good. That night I will immediately add the recipe to my growing cookbook and even sometimes email them to my family so that they too can enjoy something new.
My cooking tragedies
I have had way too many cooking tragedies to even being to think of just one major one...but hey, that is what learning is all about, right?!
