I started cooking while living in an apartment in college. It was either learn to cook good meals, or starve because everything was burnt. I've been more experimental in my cooking since being married. With cooking dinner every night, I like to have a lot of variety and I want it to be healthy (most of the time).
My favorite things to cook
My favorite food is italian. I love a great pasta dish paired with a great wine. But I also like to cook with a lot of fresh vegetables.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom doesn't cook, so my dad did all the cooking growing up. Unfortunately, he's not any good at it. I grew up on plain baked chicken, and any frozen meal you can "just add water" to. But my grandparents knew about good food. My grandfather had his own garden with fresh everything. I loved helping shuck the corn. And my grandmother would cook a huge roast beef meal every Sunday for us.
My cooking triumphs
I've mastered stuffed shells and fettucine alfredo. I even made a very edible cheesecake once.
My cooking tragedies
I've burned and butchered plenty of meals, but I really hate that I've never made a really good spaghetti sauce from scratch. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but it always turns out like a burned tomato paste.
