I found my passion for cooking early in college, when I started dating my fiance. It started with a single recipe - brown sugar meatloaf - and has progressed into now what is nearly a way of life. My mother and grandmother both loved to cook, so I'm thinking its something in the genes!
My favorite things to cook
I love making fun appetizers - stuffed mushrooms, coconut shrimp, bruschetta, dips. I also love stir-frys...anything with soy sauce, ginger and garlic is guaranteed to be a hit. Casseroles, pasta, you name it, I'll try to make it!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom's chicken & broccoli casserole and steak marinade. My sister in law also passed on an awesome chocolate chip cookie recipe.
My cooking triumphs
The first time I made steak, I remember my fiance taking one bite and his eyes got so wide, because the flavor in the marinade was so delicious. I also made twice-baked potatoes for a work holiday luncheon last year and my co-workers haven't stopped talking about them!
My cooking tragedies
One evening, I made corn casserole with pork chops and scalloped potatoes. Every single dish came out wrong - the corn casserole wasn't cooked through, the pork chops were too tough and the scalloped potatoes weren't tender. It all went in the trash and I didn't cook again for several weeks! I've learned that not every meal will be a perfect one, and that's perfectly ok. Live and learn! =)
