One Hot Mama's Cooking Challenge- Day One

I wanted to start yesterday, but my husband came in with Subway. Therefore, today will be Day One. He didn't get the picture about not bringing food home. He was trying to help.
     Refer to the challenge here.<
As part of my challenge, I am attempting new recipes. Tonight, I made Poppy Seed Spaghetti using real butter.<  It was a disappointment. There was not enough flavor as it was written. I added salt and pepper. It was not a total loss.
The hubby asked for bratwurst so there was not a whole lot of imagination to that. Peppers and onions fried up. I made homemade oven fries. I made Ranch Bean Dip for the fries and for chips for tomorrow.<   I used Southwestern Ranch Dip instead of sour cream and ranch seasoning mix. It was what I had on hand. That was a lot of cheese. I never thought that I would say "too much cheese" in my life. I will cut it in half for the next time that I make it.
Today was also grocery shopping day. I am exhausted after not sleeping well last night and running around. I am also purging the house while doing this challenge. I dropped off about 150 books to the library. I actually have shelves to dust instead of dusty books. Funny story, the reason that I did not sleep well is because my darling hubby rolled over on top of me and bit my neck. It hurt too. He just bit my neck and ear. Maybe he was trying to get frisky. He was still asleep. Alledgedly, he doesn't remember anything. I ended up on the couch, because he took over the whole bed. A couple of hours later, he woke me up to ask me why I was sleeping on the couch. Really? Let a chic sleep.

About Me
I have always loved to cook. I learned on March 10, 2014 that I am allergic to multiple foods. It has created a new challenge for me. I have learned so much more about food and alternative ways to cook. It has been frustrating and enlightening.
My favorite things to cook
I am forced and challenged to cook as frugally as possible. We have chosen to live a thrifty lifestyle, so that I can stay home with the kids. Hubby says that I can make something from nothing.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking as a family. My kids have been cooking for as long as they can remember. I am very proud of the box of recipes found from my grandmother. Some are over 100 years old.
My cooking triumphs
Getting my husband to eat some vegetarian meals. Sticking to a food budget of $400 per month and still having food left in the freezer and pantry at the end of the month.
My cooking tragedies
Sometimes, a new recipe doesn't get eaten. The kids do not like to try new things. I get bored making the same things. I guess the kids like routine.
