Crispy and Creamy Doughnuts

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2014
These are the best donuts I've had in my entire life, with no exceptions. Admittedly, I don't have donuts often, but I have had a few from some very notable chains, and they weren't nearly as good as these. They are time-consuming, but not hard, and worth every minute. (My KitchenAid mixer made the kneading effortless.) I won't ever need another glazed donut recipe. Mine made nearly four dozen, instead of 18, so I may have rolled mine out a bit thin. They looked perfectly normal after frying, though, so I'm not sure what to attribute it to. (I'm not complaining!) Accordingly, I had to make two batches of the glaze to frost all of my donuts. I also had to add about another 1/4 cup of flour to keep the dough from sticking to the bowl, but I know from my bread-baking experience that weather sometimes affects the amount of flour needed from one time to the next, at least where I live.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2008
I've been looking for something to rival the storebought kind, and this is IT! They're soft and chewy, but not too hard to work with as cut-outs. I used a simple 10x sugar icing to ice them, and they were picture-perfect as well as yummy!

Winter Squash Rolls

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2006
This is the best recipe I've ever used for dinner rolls and will be my recipe of choice from now on. The rolls have a wonderful color. The flavor reminds me of potato bread (which I LOVE). One average butternut squash will yield enough squash for about 4 batches. The rolls are large enough to use as sandwich rolls (with lunch) when the dough is only divided into 12 pieces. For dinner rolls (to accompany a supper meal), I would divide the dough into at least 18 pieces, if not 24.

One Bowl Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2006
This is truly the BEST brownie recipe I have ever made (or tasted, for that matter). I used cocoa powder and oil instead of the chocolate squares. I also found it unnecessary to line the pan, unlike another reviewer posted. I generously greased it, and the brownies came out fine. If you're looking for a brownie recipe that tastes just like - and probably better than - your favorite boxed mix, this is it!!

Old Plantation Rolls

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2006
Very, very good! I made them for a Thanksgiving celebration with friends and everyone raved over them. If they were a touch sweeter, they'd be everything I ever dreamed of in a roll. I divided mine into 18 portions (because someone said that 24 were very small) and they ended up being bigger than I anticipated. Next time I'll make 24 like the recipe says.

Baked French Fries I

Reviewed: May 3, 2006
Mine burnt to an unrecognizable crisp. To my knowledge, I followed the directions exactly. But to be fair, human error could have been at fault!

My husband loved this. It reminded him of his mother's fried potatoes when she added cheese to them. Yummy!
