Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2013
My family love this cornbread. I've made it with the sugar and I've made it with honey instead of sugar. Personally, I prefer making it with honey. I like more of a Southern cornbread where it isn't sweet but my family prefers sweeter so I use this recipe for them. Thank you for sharing it, they always look forward to me making cornbread!

Basic Flaky Pie Crust

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2013
Easy, flaky and delicious! I took the suggestion from another review and put the flour, salt and butter (not shortening) in my food processor to quickly mix it, then I dumped it in a bowl and added the ice water. I rolled the dough between two sheets of parchment paper, what a breeze! This was the best pie crust I ever made! The pie was devoured within minutes! Thank you for sharing this recipe!

Chef John's Perfect Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2013
Perfect mashed potatoes is right! I think the key to this recipe may be in using the potato masher instead of an electric mixer. I went out and bought a potato masher specifically for this recipe and it made a huge difference from my past experience when I used the electric mixer. The potatoes were so creamy. I made these the day before Thanksgiving and then put them in a crockpot on low the day of Thanksgiving (I was trying to do as much as I could ahead of time) these potatoes came out excellent! Thank you for sharing the recipe!

Herb-Glazed Roasted Turkey

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2013
Delicious! I used this recipe this Thanksgiving and it was the most flavorful turkey I ever made (and pretty too!) The turkey browned up beautifully! I used orange olive oil on the turkey and that also added to the flavor, that was my only change. My family loved the turkey. My daughter was afraid the gravy might be too sweet because of the honey drippings but actually it made the gravy more flavorful and it wasn't sweet. Thank you for sharing this recipe, I'll use this one from now on whenever I roast a turkey!

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2013
Amazing pie! I made this for Thanksgiving and it was gone within minutes of slicing it! Everyone LOVED the pie, it was so delicious! I made as the recipe stated except I did sprinkle cinnamon over the apples before putting the top crust on. The only thing I was disappointed in was that there was no leftovers to have with my coffee the next morning! Fabulous recipe, thank you for sharing it! This is the only apple pie recipe I will ever use! Yummerz!

Thai Chicken with Basil Stir Fry

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2011
We gave this recipe 5 Stars with a few changes based on our personal taste. We like spicey so we increased the red pepper flake, added Hot Pepper Sesame oil, added a bit more soy sauce and added curry. We left out the fish sauce only because it has preservatives in it and I couldn't bring myself to buy it (I have the health curse of reading labels and staying clear of chemicals!) The flavor of this dish was delicious. We added red bell pepper and extra basil, the presentation was great with the colors! Next time we make this recipe we are going to use prawns and aspargus instead of chicken; we feel those two changes will put this recipe "over the top." Thanks for sharing this tasty recipe.

Chicken Tikka Masala

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2010
This recipe was so AMAZING...YUM! My boyfriend said it tasted even BETTER than it did at the Indian Restaurant! I only used 1 tsp of salt in the marinate and in the sauce (2 tsp total) and the flavor was perfect. I also added Garam Masala and curry. I used 1/2 & 1/2 instead of heavy cream. Next time I'm going to try whole milk and then just add 1/4 of the 1/2 & 1/2 to save on fat. I baked the chicken in the oven for 25 minutes at 375; it was so tender! (I marinated the chicken for 1 1/2 days.) This recipe was easy and so incredibly tasty. This will be a new favorite in our house. Thank you for the recipe and for all the reviews and suggestions. If you are making this recipe for the first time DO NOT use the amount of salt in the recipe.

Lamb Chops with Balsamic Reduction

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
WOW!! I made this recipe last night and it was so delicious! I felt like a gourment chef when I tasted it! The chops had amazing flavor and I was shocked that it was so easy to make! I made this for myself just to try it but I will be making this dish for company soon! Very impressive! One suggestion for those who want to add garlic, use powdered garlic and not fresh minced garlic because it will get too overcooked during the browning of the chops.(Speaking from experience!)As recommended, I used a very good aged balsamic. Excellent recipe...thank you so much for sharing!!

Veggie Vegetarian Chili

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2007
We were having a potluck at work for a vegetarian co-worker who was leaving our department so I thought I'd give this recipe a try. It came out so delicious! I added a small can of diced jalepeno's to give it an extra kick and it made the flavor perfect! I used all the liquid from the beans but I drained the liquid from the corn. I cooked the chili until the consistency was what I wanted. I read some say they thought it was too runny. Not the case if you cook it longer. This chili looks so pretty too with all the different colors from the beans, corn and jalepeno. Great recipe! I will make it again...thank you!

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2007
I made these muffins yesterday and they were so delicious and they looked so pretty! I doubled the cinnamon, added an extra banana and added some rolled oats to the crumb mixture...it looked and tasted incredible! I used the large muffin pans they looked like they came from a bakery. I took some over to my daughter and her boyfriend and they loved them. My daughter thought they came from a bakery they looked so great! The rolled oats in the crumb mixture really added to the look of the muffins. Thank you...wonderful recipe!

Cheesy Potato and Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2006
Fast, easy, inexpensive soup to make. I tripled the recipe and took it to work today to share. Everyone said it was really good. I took advice from others and used cheyenne pepper to spice it up more and I used the creamed corn. Next time I make this recipe I will add chunks of grilled chicken.

Buttermilk Pancakes II

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2006
I just finished having these for breakfast and I must say they were delicious, light tasting pancakes. I added vanilla and cinnamon for extra flavor and left out the salt. Since I didn't have buttermilk I added 1 tbs of vinegar to the milk and the pancakes came out excellent. This will be the recipe I use from now on...thanks!

Oven Pot Roast

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2006
Deeeeelicous!! This was the BEST roast I've ever made. I added garlic powder and paprika to the flour and added an extra 1/4 vermouth. I also inserted garlic cloves into the roast. I started the roast in the oven but had an emergency so after 45 min in the oven transferred to a crock pot. Cooked it on low for 4 hrs. Incredible! Thank you.
