About this Cook
I'm recently married and live with my husband, my father, my grandmother, my best friend and our three dogs and three cats. I've been known to cook for everyone excluding the cats, but I guess never say never. I learned how to cook in college and am getting better all the time. I'm a stickler for old recipes that work which is why I joined here so that I can expand my repetoire.
My favorite things to cook
I am a recovering vegetarian of eight and a half years. it was simply time for me and meat to make amends, but I am a fairly decent vegetarian cook, and make some pretty good vegan baked goods. i love to make dips, munchies and foods to eat in front of the baseball game. (go sox) as i have many people in my house and three dogs, I am drawn to quick and easy but still impressive meals. I love baking but I have a fifty percent success ratio. i guess i'm still very young and am still learning what my favorite things to cook are.
My favorite family cooking traditions
as a child I was raised in a Lebonese household, and grew up with extremely yummy meals. unfortunately these recipes have eluded me, but I am doing my best to obtain them. my husband is a great cook and some of my favorite times with him have been in the kitchen spinning circles around each other with all the smells and tastes going on.
My cooking triumphs
if you saw what i started cooking with/on/in you'd be amazed i can crack an egg! college is so not glamorous for a beginning cook, but it will sure make a mcguyver out of you!!! i suppose breads are my proudest works of art for me. discovering vegan baking was another one. i am known amongst my friends for a few staples like my guacamole, and my challagh bread, which is nice, but i'd sure like to expand.
My cooking tragedies
where to begin. i suppose my big one would be cakes, for some reason i simply can't make it work. i have horrible success with breads around christmas, or anytime im stressed. goes to show that bread truly is a life that needs nurturing and not something to knead your anger out in. i could use some help with meats and such, the whole thing is sorta frightening for me since i recently started the whole meat eating thing.

Beer Batter
Oh my this was fantastic! I battered some wild caught cod and zucchini wheels and they were amazing. I seasoned my batter with a pinch of cayanne pepper and a dash of cumin then put a decent amount of garlic salt and paprika and parsley. I used an amber IPA for my beer. The results were amazing. The bater didn't fall apart in my oil, it had a perfect golden brown coat and it tasted great best of all!

Caribbean Grilled Crab Cakes
These were amazing! I made them for a dinner party and they were a huge hit. I used fake crab meat because I'm allergic to shellfish. Also, I didn't have any chilli sauce so I substituted a jalepeno, and it was perfect. I also added a tomato to the salsa. I'm making these again tonight to impress my mother at another dinner party, and they will definately be a staple in my recipe box. Thanks for the great recipe!!!

Broiled Sweet and Tangy Tilapia
this was not very good at all. the flavors of the marinade simply didn't compliment the fish in my opinion. definately will not try this again.
