Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2008
The first time I made this recipe it flopped. I'm still not sure what I did wrong, it tasted OK but the texture was WAY off. I'm sure it was me and I tried it again and it turned out fine. Don't stray too far from the recipe like I did and you will enjoy this stuffing The family still prefers our old recipe, so I will keep looking for the ultimate stuffing.

Beer Butt Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2008
I first saw this done in Boy Scout Camp many years ago. I made two small chickens in the oven rather than the grill. There is only one proper way to “disposed” of half the beer, Other than that, followed the recipe to the letter and it turned out great. The kids loved it. I will be trying this on the grill soon.

Chicago-Style Hot Dog

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2008
I was born and raised in Illinois and remember Super Dogs as delicious. Made these for a 4th of July picnic. I couldn't find all the ingredients called for in Arkansas. I had to substitute Hebrew National ¼ pound beef franks and hogie rolls. The rolls were too stiff, but I can't hold the recipe at fault there. All and all they were very good and got great reviews. I did add sour kraut which I personally think make the dish. I'll make these again soon!

Awesome Roast Beef

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2007
I used a 5 pound sirloin roast cooked on low for 8 1/2 hours. It turned out tender and juicy, but it didn't have a lot of flavor. Next time I'll try adding a few things. I can't complain it took no time to prep and cooked while I was at work for a very good dinner.

Beef Tips and Noodles

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2007
I have made this recipe three times now. The first time I followed the recipe as written and it was good, but not exactly what I wanted. The second I tweaked it a bit and it was better, the last time I hit the jackpot. I had a 2 pound bottom round steak, I browned it in 2 Tbl spoons of EVOO, dropped it in the crock pot with a can of condensed golden mushroom with garlic soup, a packet of Lipton dried onion soup, a small diced red onion, a diced green bell pepper and a 4 oz pkg of fresh mushroom caps. I let this cook for about 10 hours on low. By the time I got home from work the roast shredded easily with a fork. I served it over egg noodles. This was the taste I remember my Mom making hundreds of times. I changed enough it’s almost a different recipe but the family raved. With the tweaks it gets 5 stars in our house.

USMC SOS

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2007
I ate a small mountain of SOS in various mess halls. This recipe isn't bad but its not authentic USMC SOS. I added diced onion, garlic powder, worchester sauce and a dash of hot sauce. That is the taste I remember! SOS is normally served over toast but is best served over biscuits. Try it the authentic way, thousands of US service men have eaten it that way.

Ultimate Twice Baked Potatoes

Reviewed: May 19, 2007
I made these with Porterhouse steaks and French onion soup, also from this site, for Mothers Day. it took longer than expected for them to bake, but that is probably my oven. I used EVOO and Kosher salt on the skins, other than that I followed the recipe and they turned out super. They look make a nice colorful presentation, very creamy and tasty. I will certainly be making these again. Thank you for sharing!

Bread Pudding II

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2007
Excellent! Wonderful texture and flavor, not too sweet. My only objection is the servings, I made a double batch and it sure won’t serve 12 in this house. Thanks Ellen this is just what I was looking for. Definitely a keeper.

Heart Attack Eggs

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2007
This is the only way to fry an egg! My mother fried eggs like this for 77 years. I prefer to scramble the eggs in the bacon grease, but an over easy eats pretty fine too. You have to die from something, might as well be delicious eggs.

Easy Homestyle Green Beans

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2006
I modified this a little. I had turkey stock handy, so substituted that for the bouillon. I used more bacon and onions because I like them. Turned out super. Couldn’t be quicker or easier, my kind of recipe.

A recipe doesn’t get much easier and the yams were delicious. I popped them in the oven while the turkey rested and the timing was perfect.

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2006
Outstanding! I brine soaked the bird for 24 hours then roasted it with this recipe. The only problem was carving, the bones kept pulling out of the meat! Very tender and juicy with a very nice flavor. Almost too simple to make this nice a bird. Thanks Used this recipe again at Easter; another delicious bird. Almost a foolproof recipe and I sure appreciate that on a busy holiday afternoon.

Grandma's Hash Browns

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2006
I have loved hash browns since childhood, but have struggled to make decent ones. This recipe is almost foolproof and makes excellent hash browns, very easy with just the right combination of soft and crispy. The first time I followed the recipe as written and they turned out very well, but I couldn’t resist fiddling with it a little. A couple slices of bacon add a nice flavor and the oil keeps the butter from burning. Crumble the bacon into the shredded potatoes and add some diced green onion. These little changes yield hash browns worth getting up early on Saturday for. I tried yukon gold potatoes, but the Russets have a better texture. Thank you Denyse for taking the mystery out of a classic breakfast favorite.
