Grew up in Ohio but have lived in Texas, Tenn, Florida, and now Alabama. Along the way I have picked up some GREAT recipes from people along the way. Worked in the health care field for 30 years and am very involved in church. At one time I cooked every Wednesday night for about 75 people. And I did it within 3 hours!!!
My favorite things to cook
Comfort foods that my family loves-those things that bring back memories. I like baking and experimenting with what I have on hand. Usually no complaints.
My favorite family cooking traditions
What would Christmas be without cutout sugar cookies? Also, Thanksgiving has to be turkey, stuffing(yes, that's from the north-it's dressing in Alabama) sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, cranberry-orange relish, and pink fluff!! One year I changed it up and you would have thought it was the end of the world. One of those comfort meals! Every birthday, everyone gets to pick out their favorite meal and dessert that I fix for them. Christmas I have finally convinced them to let me change up the menu, and I always make it special with my many different sets of dishes for the occassion. Presentation is important!
My cooking triumphs
When my youngest was about 14 she begged me to make a gingerbread house for Christmas. Well, we did it and it was really great! We kept it for about a month!! We were both proud of it.
My cooking tragedies
Saw a recipe on TV one day for asparagus that was fixed differently-I can't remember how now-I'm still forgetting it. Anyway, we all gagged at the table and it ended up in the trash. I still get razed about that one.
