As a cook for our family of 6, I am always looking for new recipes to please everyone's palate, so Allrecipes is my go-to site for menu planning. I often get inspiration from the "Recipe of the Day." Serving up meals that are homemade, with real, wholesome ingredients, is very important to me. Since my husband has a gluten allergy, I appreciate the gluten-free recipes on this site as well.
My favorite things to cook
I have enjoyed baking ever since I was a little girl, so that is my passion. Over the years, I have become much more comfortable and experienced with cooking full meals. As a lifetime baker, I was used to always using exact measurements. When I first started to get serious about cooking, I had to get over the "exact" measurements in following a recipe, and learn to season "to taste." Now I am very liberal with the seasonings and have developed a keen sense of taste.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Family cookouts are the favorite during the summer months. The traditional Thanksgiving meal is always a grand feast at our home, and the annual Christmas cookie days of baking always produces many sweet treats to give away to family and friends.
My cooking triumphs
Over the years, I have been complimented on my baking skills most of all. Most notable is my "Fresh Carrot Cake," totally made from scratch (and very delicious, I might add!). I recently took cake decorating classes with my daughter, and have received many compliments on the decorated cakes I have made so far.
My cooking tragedies
Well, my first attempt at deep frying a turkey turned out horribly! Overdone on the outside and raw in places on the inside = disaster! Was so messy too. I'm sticking to oven roasting : )
