Curried Pickled Onions

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2013
I made them last year for my Mum's birthday and they have just finished them. My step-father loved them so much that it's the only thing he has asked for for his 70th birthday. Thank you for sharing.

Blueberry Buckle

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2012
This is a firm favourite with the whole family. We can't always get blueberries in Spain so I tried it with raspberries and loquats and even without the fruit it was delicious every time. We love it, thank you for posting.

Cranberry Scones

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2011
I made a mistake with recipe: I thought I would add some orange to the scone recipe so I added the zest and juice of 1 orange and rehydrated some dried cranberries because I didn't have any fresh and although I drained them with that and the orange juice the dough was sticky without adding any buttermilk at all. As a result the scones didn't rise and turned out more like cookies. They were very tasty and I will try again paying a bit more attention to detail.

Tomato Chicken Parmesan

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2011
We try not to use oil in cooking so we baked the chicken in the crumb mix. We thought this was very tasty but we spoilt it by using the Rago Basil pasta sauce which was just too overpowering. We will definately do it again but with a plain tomato sauce. Thanks for sharing

Quick and Easy Yorkshire Pudding

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2011
To make this taste like traditional English yorkshire pudding you need to add about 1/2 tsp of salt. Other than that, this recipe is spot on.

Limehouse Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2011
Sorry folks, my family really didn't like it. Too sweet, not enough lime or mint and the flour coating was just soggy. On the plus side the chicken was very moist and tender.

Chocolate Crinkles II

Reviewed: May 28, 2011
Delicious but they just didn't hold their shape and came out flat. I tried adding more cocoa powder, putting it in the freezer and now I am going to try freezing the individual balls and cooking from frozen. Perhaps the measurements just don't survive being converted into metric, perhaps my eggs were too big but it just didn't work.

German Apple Cake I

Reviewed: May 8, 2011
Very tasty but unfortunately I had to cook it for much longer because the middle was still soggy but then the edges were a bit crunchy/burnt. Next time I will definately do it in a bundt tin.

Sour Cream Pound Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2011
I had a tub of sour cream left over from a dinner party and didn't want to throw it away so I found this recipe. I did make a few changes but only because I'm lazy and my little boy likes chocolate cake not plain cake so.... I used the same weight of olive oil instead of butter and mixed it all together without having to "cream" anything. Added the full 142ml sour cream and 25g cocoa powder, a sachet of baking powder and a couple of ounces of chocolate chips. It was perfect and the whole family loved it - no one guessed that it had sour cream in it at all. Thanks for posting!

Perfect St. Patrick's Day Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2011
I did this cake for an early St Patrick's day lunch and it went down a treat. I was a bit dubious that it would cook through when I saw how runny the mixture was but it produced a beautifully risen but very sticky cake. I don't like butter icing so I filled it with whipped cream mixed with melted chocolate and a little Baileys, trimmed the edge with vermicelli and topped it with confectioners sugar (with a shamrock motif). It was delish and we will be having it again.

Spiced Yogurt Pound Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2010
I didn't have any butter so I used 1 cup oil and because some reviewers had said it was a bit dry I added 1/4 cup apple sauce. Baked for 45 mins and it was perfect. Just the right amount of spice and nice and moist. Thanks, I will make it again

Colleen's Slow Cooker Jambalaya

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2010
I didn't have time to do this in the slow cooker so I dry fried the chicken with the herbs/spices then added the vegetables (plus 4 chopped cloves garlic), tomatoes, chicken stock and some paella rice. Brought it up to the boil and cooked stirring constantly for 40 minutes. It was delicious. The whole family raved about it. We get a lot of paella in Spain but it was nice to have something with a bit more bite. Thanks for posting Colleen.

Dried Cherry Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2010
I was worried it might taste a bit yogurty but it didn't. It was the big hit of Christmas, everyone thought it was the nicest thing they had eaten all holiday. The only thing I had to change was I had a 170g bag of berries and cherries which needed using up so I put those in instead of 90g of cherries - it was just the right amount of fruit and absolutely delish. Making it again tomorrow for the three kings.

Grilled Beer Chicken

Reviewed: May 13, 2009
I don't have a BBQ so I put the whole chicken with the 1/2 the butter/beer mixture in my slow cooker. After about 6 hours I took off the lid and transferred it to the oven to crisp the skin. IT WAS DELICIOUS. Next time I may try another reviewers suggestion of a brown sugar/chilli mixture just to mix up the flavours a bit.

Hawaiian Tarts

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2008
Wow! These are delicious. I did them just as the recipe but since I didn't have a mini-muffin tray I did full sized muffins. Next time I will cheat though and use ready made short crust pastry for the base.

Orange Charlotte

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2007
This recipe produced a delicious, light and fluffy orange mousse. Next time I think I will half the recipe though because it is too yummy and I kept going back for more which is not good for my ever expanding waistline.

Homesteader Cornbread

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2006
Very good. I put the cornmeal in the milk and brought it to the boil before using it in the recipe so it didn't taste gritty but it went down really well at a Cowboy Cookout I did.

Seafood Mousse

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2006
I was very sceptical, I didn't believe that so few shrimps could make it taste shrimpy but it works really well. I used mushroom soup and I didn't have any celery so did without but it was still great. Will definately use for the next party - I may try the suggestion of a little jalepeno but it doeesn't really need it.
