About this Cook
I was born and raised in a small town in Minnesota. I'm currently a Dental Hygienist trying to find a way to keep myself and my husband fed on a budget without ending up with boring, bland food.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook are the limited recipes my mom taught me (see family traditions, she rarely cooked). My specialty is her Sloppy Joes, I've really got them down now and people even ask me for the recipe! (there isn't one!)
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom didn't really cook at all, we ate deep fried food a lot. My dad wasn't much of a cook, either, but I always loved watching him cook Sunday morning omelets. He was also the one to make the Christmas-time goodies and I'm hoping to continue that. In the last 2 years I've mastered his divinity and next year I'm going to tackle his toffee
My cooking triumphs
I made my first homemade, from scratch cake November of 2009!! 2011 brought me a standmixer and my first successful homemade pizza dough (and grilled thai chicken pizza!)
My cooking tragedies
So many...so very very many...most notably the first time I made pancakes on my own (age 18, I just didn't have anyone to teach me) I was trying to impress my new (now husband, bless him for enduring my experiments)boyfriend. My griddle was too hot to start with and my spatula melted when I flipped the cakes, leaving bits of melty plastic on them. Then, for the next few I decided a little more oil on the pan would help, too much oil and they ended up more deepfried than anything else. My boyfriend endured them with a smile, but Sunday morning pancakes are his responsibility now.

Chicken Stir-Fry
We enjoyed this enough to search my browser history for the recipe again a month later. From preference we use low sodium soy and venison instead of chicken, we also opted for frozen stir fry veggies... But those are really minor changes to a solid flavor profile!

Lemon-Cream Cheese Cupcakes
I LOVE these cupcakes! The flavor is so bright and refreshing and the cupcakes are moist. These are one of my favorite spring/summer treats to take to gatherings because they aren't your typical cupcakes Occasionally I use Neufchatel instead of cream cheese to cut the calories just a tad

Finnish-American Flatbread
My mother in law is Finnish American, raised on a farm and hearing Finn at home, Finnish Flatbread is one of her favorite 'treats' and memories of her grandmother. I used this recipe for my first attempt at it and when she put the first bite in her mouth (still warm from the oven) she nearly choked herself trying to compliment it while eating more!!! Thanks for making me the "Favorite Daughter In Law" (ok, I'm the only one, haha, but she still said it!)
