Restaurant Style Beef and Broccoli

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
VERY good!! Doesn't have the "exact" restaurant taste, but definitly a new addition to my recipe collection! I kept the ingredients the same other than I used chicken breast and doubled the sauce. I didn't think these changes changed the recipe so I could still give it an accurate rating. The second time I made this I added fresh mushrooms, water chestnuts and corn (the stuff commonly used in asian recipe's). Thanks Dianne!!!!

Fantastic! I did omit most of the boullion cubes (used 1) because I added breakfast sausage. Turned out awesome! Thanks!!!

Salsa Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2009
WOW! This recipe was really good!!! I went through some of the reviews and took advice from a few. I used 1 pkt of Taco Bell taco seasoning and 2/3 cups water to make a marinade. I then put that and the chicken in a plastic bag to coat well and marinade overnight. I used a crock-pot to cook the chicken...thin layer of salsa on bottom and another layer over the chicken. I cooked it 6hours on low. I had to use a large spoon to take the chicken out, it was THAT tender!! We then added cheese and salsa, fantastic!! The leftovers were even better. Only negative (small one at that) is that there is so much salsa left over, it would be nice to find a use for it. I highly recommend this recipe to everyone!

Tuna Noodle Casserole I

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2010
Very good. Per others suggestions I doubled the cheese sauce recipe. I usually do not change recipes the first time around but this sauce did need a little something extra. I added Garlic and onion powder and 1 can cream of celery soup. Also added some steamed broccoli (we do not like peas) and during the last 5 minutes topped with fried onions. Excellent!

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2009
AWESOME!!! Very moist and flavorful. I did use suggestions from others and tweaked it as such....1/2'd the oil and used applesauce (homemade) for the other half. Did NOT drain the zucchini...2cups total sugar, 1 cup white-1 cup brown. Lastly I did a crumble for the top. I let the bread bake for about 15 minutes then added the crumble. (Oatmeal, flour, brown sugar and butter). Will make this OVER and over again!! Thanks!

Easy Turkey Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2008
Very good and VERY easy!! I added drippings from the turkey, then added chicken stock to make the 5 cups. I messed up on the flour part somehow, had lumps that I skimmed out, it was my first time ever making gravy. Will DEFINITLY make again!! **Update** made this again, turned out great (no lumps). Only difference is I did it with beef drippings from a prime rib. Instead of cream of chicken soup I used cream of mushroom soup and beef broth to make up the 5 cups. Nix the poultry seasoning, it was fantastic as ever!

Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
FANTASTIC!! I usually do not change recipe's the first time making but did so based on others reviews...but I didn't change much! I doubled the batch, used half prepared mustard and half ground mustard. Added some garlic powder and omited the salt. Once all mixed I tasted it and added a pinch of seasoned salt. The eggs were eaten up, not watery at all. Cannot wait to make again, they were a hit! Thanks Margaret!

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies I

I hate chocolate, so honestly I did not even try to taste one of these. HOWEVER everyone who did loved them and kept talking about how wonderful they were...which is why I gave the 5 stars. Thank you for the recipe!

The Old Boy's Strawberry Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2009
FABULOUS! This pie was so good it was gone the moment it cooled enough to eat. I only changed one part of the recipe...the topping. I took the suggestion from another user and did a basic crumble for the top (butter, oats, flour, brown sugar). This made the desert a pie/crisp that everyone loved! I did use all the leftover cornstarch, turned out good with little "goo", next time I probably will not add that. A must try and so easy!

Refried Beans Without the Refry

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2009
Firstly, I gave this 5 stars because despite the problems I had...it turned out and tasted great. I had to double the recipe for a party I was having...it made A LOT. I could not use a slow cooker due to lack of room so I used a roaster on 250 degrees (the temp high would be if in a slow cooker). At 8 hours the beans were far from done. At 13 hours they were just starting to soften. I shut the heat off and let them sit overnight. I never made anything with pinto beans before so I was unsure how soft they would be when done, so the next morning I assumed they were. After mashing them they were SOOOO grainy! I put the heat back on, added about half the juice reserved. About 2 hours later they were great. My husband swore something was missing, so we added some homeade taco seasoning...even better. I am going to try this again but in a slow cooker and half the amount of this recipe as we can not eat that many beans.

Fresh Tomato Salsa

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2009
Very good, only if you do this recipe as is...it comes out spicy. Not over powering but for those who want a mild salsa or no heat, skip the peppers and use regular diced tomatoes with no chile's. Otherwise it was awesome and so easy to do!

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: May 22, 2009
SO GOOD! I took the suggestions of others..cut back on some of the "spicy" ingredients. I halved the paprika, 1/8 tsp pepper flakes, and 1 tsp cumin. After I had all the ingredients together I tossed them in the blender to make the spices all the same size. The flavor turned out PERFECT, little hint of spice but not over powering. I found that this recipe is enough for about 1 lb of meat (2 tablespoons approx). I used 2/3 cups water and about 1 tblsp flour to thicken it up. Just cooked until it was thick. Thank you!

Sausage Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2008
I made this stuffing, did not stuff in turkey, it came out extremly dry!! I am not sure what I did wrong, I followed the recipe exactly. The flavor was great however, which is why I gave it 4 stars...perhaps I did something wrong...I will probably not make again, even though the flavor was good to me, guests thought it was "off".

Very good and really easy to make! Only difference I did (was not a major change I promise) was once they were done I added a pinch of Grated Parmesan on top. Awesome!

General Tao Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2010
Very good, BUT nothing like any General Tao I have had at a restaurant. The flavors were good, chicken tender and juicy, however this recipe could not be mistaken for a chinese restaurant. I will definitly make this again, maybe cut back on the sesame oil used as it was a bit strong (we eat asian meals all the time and are used to the flavors but it still seemed strong). I did do one thing different, I sauteed some broccoli with minced Garlic to serve along with this meal. I would definitly reccomend this recipe to someone, just not claim it was like a restaurant.

Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2009
Did recipe as is (always do this the first time I make it). Very "oniony"...tangy. Next time I think I will use the lipton beefy onion mix instead of the condensed soup or use beefy mushroom. I love onions, but something was just a bit off. Had a decent flavor otherwise...think this is a good base to start off with but needs tweaking to personal tastes.

Scalloped Potatoes and Onions

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2009
WOW! I tried this recipe exactly, and it was FANTASTIC!! I shared the recipe with my sister who did not have mayo and added ham and some garlic powder...loved it also. This is one of the few recipe's that does not need tweaking, very VERY good

Best Guacamole

This was very good, however I felt like it was lacking in "something" I am definitly going to try again and see if I like it more. Could just have been the avacado's I used.
