About this Cook
Ooo, I love to cook. We recently moved from NYC to Portland and since our apartment is much more spacious I can now use my oven to discover the joys of baking instead of having to store my pots and pans in it. I have a husband and a daughter. They both love to eat my food which is a very good thing.
My favorite things to cook
Mexican inspired food (I wouldn't dare say it's authentic) Colombian food, I wish I had a pasta maker!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother used to make "cockeyed cake" (sometimes known as "cookoo cake") After she passed away her recipe books mysteriously dissapeared and I have yet to find a recipe that even comes close to it.
My cooking triumphs
I make a mean ceviche and Colombian ajiaco (a potato and chicken soup) is heavenly with a generous dolop of table cream.
My cooking tragedies
I don't often cook meat. Once we had friends over and I was HORRIFIED to see that, when they cut into their chicken breasts, they were still pink in the middle. Here my husband had been boasting to them that I was a tigress in the kitchen! Thankfully they were good friends and graciously let me take back their chicken and cook it for a few more minutes.

Adrienne's Tom Ka Gai
Thank you so much for this recipe! I'm going to save so much money now that I know how to make this soup at home. I followed other commenters advice and used broth instead of water. Try it with shrimp or tofu for variety. Yummy!

Pizza Dough I
I doubled this recipe and was able to make a small pizza and 5 calzones but I didn't take into account that the dough would rise so much while baking! The calzones ended up huge! I added some dried herbs and garlic powder and substituted some of the white flour for whole wheat (2 cups for a double batch). I ended up using more water than the recipe called for, not sure how much I eyeballed it. All in all this is a great recipe, next time I'll throw in some parm cheese, yum!

Creme Brulee II
This turned out utterly divine! I'm so excited that I no longer have to go to a restaurant to get my favorite dessert! I used an extra egg yolk as some people suggested but aside from that I followed the recipe to a t. Well done!
