White Chili I

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2010
This was yummy and very quick and easy to make. I love one pot wonders. I forgot to get green onions at the store so I'll have to try that for next time. I didn't cook the chicken and onion separate. I added 2 raw chicken breast to the broth and spices with 1/2 an onion. and half way through I took the chicken out and cut them into bite size cubes. Used 2 cans of Great Northern Beans, drained, 2 cans of green chile peppers and added 1 cubed zuchinni squash. I intended to make Cha Cha's white chili and the ingredients are very similiar but in the end I didn't follow either recipe as far as chicken and bean ratio. I used 2 sprigs of fresh cilantro instead of using dried cilantro, I don't care for the dried one to much. My co-worker loved it and said I should be slapped. lolol We ate this with BLT sandwiches. I'll be making this again. Thanks for the recipe.

Mid-Summer Italian Bread Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2010
This was quick and easy. I used 1/2 the loaf and that was plenty. I had corn and black bean salad from AR left over and I added it to this salad to use it up. I sprinkled Dried basil and drizzled Olive oil lightly over the bread and tossed the bread to coat and set aside until dinner. I added the bread right before serving with 1/2 a bag of salad and the leftover corn and black bean salad. Light and refreshing. Will add grilled chicken next time to make a complete meal. Thanks for the recipe.

Korean Spicy Chicken and Potato (Tak Toritang)

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2009
My mom has always called this "Chicken Chim". I'm half Korean and this is a favorite of our family. I wanted to try this so that I wouldn't have to call my mom anymore to ask her to make it so we can come over and eat for dinner. lol. Thats pretty sad huh? My mom adds zucchini squash also to this and uses sesame oil (about a swirl of it in the pot)and sesame seeds. But She doesnt use the gochujang she just uses the same red pepper flakes used in making kim-chi. My sister and I like it made with more vegetables than meat but she does uses chicken breast or drumsticks depending on what she has. The recipe was good. (That says alot because nothing is ever as good as my mom's)You can always play with the main ingredients though. It's very hard to write recipes for korean dishes because they never measure things out. Thanks for the recipe.

New Potatoes with Caper Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2009
This was really good. Unfortunatley I didnt realize we were out of butter so I used olive oil instead. I added enough olive oil just for "wetness", just enough to coat and help mix things up. It's very easy and quick to make and great for company or potlucks not just for home meals. Everyone will love you and will ask for your recipe. Thanks for the recipe!

Hummus III

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2009
My family really liked this. Little bit to thick if you follow the recipe exactly. I added alittle bit more Olive oil but next time I will add water and see if that helps. I decided to make a greek themed dinner and it was a big hit. I made everything from recipes I found from here.

Aussie Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2008
I love honey mustard and this was very good. I didn't use corn syrup(didn't have) and the chicken that I used was frozen so I didn't brown them at all. Instead I baked covered in the oven for about an 45 minutes and then uncovered for 20 minutes. I probably more then doubled the mushrooms. Other then that I followed the recipe exactly step by step. I looked online at the Restaurant's menu........ omg! we'll defintely be eating in for so much cheaper. Thanks for a budget friendly meal idea.

N'Awlins Stuffed Bell Peppers

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2008
Thank you for the nice recipe. It was very good. I omited the file powder, parsley and bread crumbs(didn't have) and celery(don't like). I had a box of seasoned corbread stuffing still left over from Thanksgiving.I think next time I won't buy all the peppers, bc no one ate that part, but rather just use the one pepper chopped and make the stuffing into a casserole kind of dish instead. I used some ham leftover from Thanksgiving. I think you definately have to have the right flavored ham, not just cubed package ham or lunch meat ham. I chose this recipe and also the awesome ham and potato soup so that I could use up all my Thanksgiving leftover meats. I like that the recipe is very versatile. I usually dont change the recipes but I tried to use up what I had already at home so even with all my eliminations was still very good. Thank you so much for the recipe.

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2008
I made this soup and brought it to work. Everyone liked it alot except that I made it too spicy they said. I followed the recipe exactly except I didn't have any tomato sauce and I used 1 jalepeno instead of crushed peppers. Since I used stuff that I had on hand we ate the soup without the sour cream, cheese and tortilla chips. Thanks for sharing. I also used the taco seasoning provided by the submitter in one of the reviews instead of a seasoning packet.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2008
Very quick and yummy. I followed the recipe exactly but little to soupy for me. I prefer to have it heartier. Not enough potatoes. I bought a ham steak and just used 3/4 cup originally but bc the potato amount wasn't enough I ended up adding the whole ham steak instead. I like that milk was used and not heavy cream b/c we always have milk on hand. Very easy recipe to play with and change up the ingredients. I think next time I'll add navy beans and matchstick carrots instead of adding more potatoes. Kind of reminds me of Zuppa Tuscano at Olive Garden alittle if I used the same ingredients. Thanks for the recipe.

Whole Wheat Beer Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2008
This turned out better then I thought. I dont drink alcohol let alone beer so I actually had no idea what beer to use. I did settle on bud light. I liked the texture and consistency of the bread. Also used whole wheat graham flour instead of regular whole wheat flour only b/c I grabbed the wrong flour. Thanks for the recipe. I think I'll try a different beer next time for sure.

Oatmeal Whole Wheat Quick Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2008
I thought the honey added a nice touch to the bread, I prefered this bread to the beer bread I made right after I stuck this in the oven. I accidently picked up whole wheat graham flour and I'm not sure what the difference between regular whole wheat flour and the graham flour is. I also left the rolled oats whole. The mix came out kind of runny so I added maybe another half cup of flour (this was before I re-read the reviews while I was waiting)I also put this in a loaf pan. After 20 minutes the very middle was still kind of gooey so I put it back in the oven for 10 minutes. My friend at school always baked treats and bread with whole wheat and brought me some and it lowered my cholesterol and A1C so I'm making more of an effort to learn to do what she did. practise makes perfect. Thank you for the recipe. This was my first attempt at making bread. I will try and double the batch to make it fill the loaf pan more next time. Thanks

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2008
The brownies were easy to make and just the right amount of chocolate. I only added 2 1/2 cups of sugar. My boyfriend says these are 3 1/2 stars and very good but not 5 stars. He's weird. lol He fussed at me for not buying the box brownies when I was preparing this and ate this whole pan of brownies himself. Go figure. I dont have a sifter and just dumped the flour mix into the eggs without sif0ting. I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes but still was yummy. Thanks for the recipe.

Pecan Pie V

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2007
This was very nice. We couldn't even tell the difference. The only thing I change was used no white sugar and added only 3/4 of regular brown sugar and it was still perfect. Don't even miss the gooeyness of the usuall pecan pies.

Korean Sushi

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2007
Oh my goodness! This dish is absolutely authentic and regular pickles are not a good substitute for pickled radish. I'm half Korean, and this is exactly how my mom would make it except for some of the ingredients and baking the sea weed sheets. My mom and her friends would trade off making Kim-bab because it is time consuming to make and they all made it differently. They usually make 25-50 rolls at a time and made it an all day event talking away in the kitchen sometimes. You can change up some of the ingredients or use the ingredients in this recipe as well. Mom usually uses cucumber, fish cake, spinach, carrots, eggs, pickled radish, AND SPAM. Most people never think of spam to go in this but it's great and you would never know spam is there. Some of her friends used hotdog, Bul-gogi or imitation crab as well. You don't have to use the pickled radish but it really does add to the recipe and flavor. For some though it's an acquired taste. Instead of the Chard leaves you can substitute spinach and drizzle sesame oil, salt, pepper, sesame seed, garlic powder to season it. I don't care for when she makes the rice with vinegar but instead drizzle sesame oil and sprinkle sesame seeds and fold the rice. With the remaining pickled radish you can add cucumbers splashed with vinegar, a little sugar and red pepper flakes and make a pickled radish kim-chi to eat with your Kim-bab.

Andrea's Pasta Fagioli

Reviewed: May 16, 2007
Very easy to make. I did modify the recipe to make it a little more hearty. I switched out the water with chicken broth, also used a jar of spaghetti sauce. Added extra vegetables like squash, matchstick carrots, a can of mixed vegetables. I also changed the can of cannellini beans with kidney beans. Everything else I left the same. Very good, everybody had seconds and ate hardly any of the salad I made to go with it. Thanks for sharing
