About this Cook
I'm a single mother of 4, with two adorable granddaughters. My favorite time of the week is when the kids all come for Sunday dinner. My children love my cooking and I get great pleasure out of that. My next favorite thing is when my daughters make my recipes for their families.
My favorite things to cook
I love the comfort foods I grew up with--fried chicken, roasts, lasagna, fresh garden vegetables, pound cake from scratch--that sorta thing. The reason I love this website so much is because I can find wonderful family recipes from other good cooks that call for regular ingredients that I have on hand.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We still have all the family together on Sundays for dinner. Also, birthdays for the special person means they can choose any of their favorite meals and Mom will prepare it for them. They'd rather have a family meal at Mom's than go to a restaurant.
My cooking triumphs
My greatest personal triumph is in teaching my daughters to cook like I to instill within them the love of cooking and the satisfaction of preparing a meal with each separate dish ready to go on the table at the same time!!
My cooking tragedies
I had many missteps and ruined dishes when I was a new cook and learning on my own. I haven't had any tragedies in a long, long time.

Quick and Easy Clam Chowder
This was the best clam chowder I've ever made, according to my family. They loved it! I followed the recipe exactly, except for adding a little garlic salt and 2 diced potatoes. It was so simple to make and the taste was incredible.

Mexican Fire Rice
This is a fantastic dish! Very easy and quick to fix and the bonus is, it's delicious! I prepared it exactly as instructed, but cut the recipe in half. I let it sit a good 15 minutes after taking it out of the oven so it would "set up" a little. Then we ate it on warm flour tortillas. My kids said it was better than anything they could get at Taco Bell!! I'm taking that as a compliment. This will be a regular at my house.

Kathy's Roast and Vegetables
I've been making pot roast for many years and had never tried this recipe. It was outstanding! I used a chuck roast instead of bottom round. I also coated the roast with flour before browning, and I used Golden Onion Soup mix because that's what I had on had. It was a big hit with the family. Will definitely make this one again!
