I made this for a dinner at my girlfriend's parents' house. It is a very rich cake, that must be eaten in small pieces. I separated the whites from the yolks and whipped them until thick peaks, then folded them into the batter to make the cake more fluffy.
here is the chocolate-almond buttercream frosting recipe I used. --1 stick butter(soft), 1/2 stick of butter shortening, 1 1/2 tsp. of almond extract, 4 1/2 cups of sifted powdered sugar, mix that all up and melt another 1/2 stick of butter in the microwave with 2 squares of unsweetened chocolate and 1/4 cup milk chocolate chips. Then add to the frosting while blending. If you think it's too thick, add 1-2 tsp. of milk to thin it out.
