About this Cook
When I moved out, I had to start relying on my grade 8 Home Ec skills! I find that I'm enjoying trying new things and they usually turn out well. I'm more comfortable with baking than preparing meals but I'm learning! My favourite foods are pasta, chicken quesadillas, paninis (I just got a new grill!), pecan butterscotch muffins, brie and ice cream. I don't eat red meat but I can cook a mean steak!
My favorite things to cook
Pies (especially lemon meringue), flan, brownies, muffins, cookies, cornbread, pasta and banana bread.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom makes this incredible chicken pie and her stuffing is sensational as well. Whenever we have family dinners with the whole extended family, we have them at my parents' house. My mom always cooks enough food for at least 30 people! And she does it all by herself! She makes Chinese dishes and Canadian/Caucasian dishes. Growing up, she would prepare separate dinners for me because I was such a picky eater!
My cooking triumphs
The first time I succeeded in making meringue was a real triumph. So I'm happy whenever a meringue pie turns out well. I'm always working towards the perfect crust. I've also made good cornbread, stuffed almond-covered chicken breasts, steak au poivre, vegetarian quiche, muffins and Yorkshire pudding!
My cooking tragedies
I made a banana cream pie for my boyfriend's parents and the custard filling didn't thicken properly! The crust was absolute perfection and the meringue turned out well, but the filling was watery! I was so upset!

In terms of taste and texture, this naan is pretty much just like something I would get at my favourite Indian restaurant, although it's a bit more dense. I was amazed at how simple it was to make, though it was time-consuming. However, I will have to tweak with it a bit to give it the appearance of authentic naan. I don't have a grill so I tried laying some directly on the grill of the oven and I put a few in the skillet. I don't think I rolled these out flat enough (I don't have a rolling pin) so the ones in the oven were extremely puffy. The ones from the skillet were flatter but weren't as pretty. I think that I will try rolling these out flatter and then baking them on the grill like a pizza.

Rich and Creamy Tomato Basil Soup
Very good basic soup recipe and surprisingly easy to make. I used Half and Half and less butter than the recipe called for, and it still tasted great. I like to serve mine with honey drizzled on the bottom of the bowl and grated parmesan on top. I think this soup was missing a little something, so the next time I make this, I will add some diced onions and let them simmer with the juice and diced tomatoes. I think they will provide the extra flavour that I'm looking for.

Urban Legend Chocolate Chip Cookies
I was disappointed by these cookies. The oatmeal taste was overwhelming, so they tasted like oatmeal rather than chocolate-chip cookies. My boyfriend's father really liked them, however.
