Grilled pumpkin pie. What?

Yesterday evening our oven stopped working.  So, long story short, my husband took the oven apart, and ordered replacement parts.  But tonight, we want pumpkin pie, so I cleaned off the grill, and put my pie in there.  It's outside baking now.

This is a blog in process as I am also getting help on the buzz.

The pie has cooked for 75 minutes, but is not done.  It's still creamy.  I've never relied on the thermometer in the lid before, and now I'm guessing it's not accurate.  Per suggestion from chairlifter on the buzz, I've fashioned a reflector out of foil and placed it over the pie.

I'm having fun with this little adventure.

The pie has baked another 30 minutes - still not done, but not burned either.  The foil touched the top of the pie in one area - not ruined, but not picture perfect either.  So now I've added two foil "supports" on either side to support the center of the "reflector."  But I'm still going to take a picture.

After another 15 minutes, the pie is done.  The crust on the edges are a bit browned, but the rest is fine.

I'm glad you got your pie! If you get a "real" oven thermometer & put it in the BBQ, you can make lots of things! I've done cornbread & regular loaves many times. Works great for summer, too!

Great idea ScooterSandi! In the summer I tend to avoid turnung on the oven. I will look for a real thermometer.

Hi Clover, When I looked at the pie I immediately saw a happy Face imprinted on the filling that I am wondering how everyone else saw the photo. I am good at showing my creative side to everyone when the occasion presents itself. I love pumpkin pie for dessert. I am happy that I read your blog this evening. Happy New Year Clover and all the best for you in 2014.

Its winter, and the breeze can but your grill temps all over them map. Likewise, in Colorado, you are at a significant elevation that is going to further pull the timing all over the place. Good thought to note the ambient temperature, wind direction and strength into your grill "log" (that diary that explains "what happened when I tried this") for future reference!

My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook changes with the seasons or my moods. Currently salads have my interest - with bean in them. At the start of 2014 I began eating flexitarian style - that's semi-vegetarian - for heart health. I have found this change to be fairly easy, and I my testing is showing much improvement.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When I was growing up we always made popcorn balls together as a family for Christmas. And with my own kids, we made frosted cookies for Santa on Christmas eve.
My cooking triumphs
The first Thanksgiving dinner that I made for my husband and I felt like an accomplishment because I had Never made a big dinner by myself before.
My cooking tragedies
Many, I'm sure, but I don't dwell on them.
