About this Cook
Traditional cooking, southern, is probably my favorite....nothing really fancy unless the need arises. I love fresh, local foods and tend to stay with that. I also tend to reach back and use the old tried and true recipes from My Mom & G'Mother's books...I have just started a blog by request to share old recipes, tried and true favorites with those who might be surfing!
My favorite things to cook
Anything my family loves, but their absolute favorite is anything they help to grow, harvest and make....they love the traditional southern meals, everyone gathered at the table sharing stories, time and food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Having My hubby, Mom, myself, and kids in the kitchen...we love to get together for big meals around a huge old farm house table, talk, reminisce...it's very familiar and very comfortable.
My cooking triumphs
Yay, I mastered my hubby's favorite dessert!!! Creme' Brulee !!! Although, he still loves the favorite standbys...Cobblers, fried pies, fruit crumbles....
My cooking tragedies
Wow......learning to use a smoker...that was years ago, but we wasted a lot of money and a lot of food!! The dogs got fatter!

Spaghetti Sauce II
I too made the following changes: I opted for lean ground beef instead of pork (just a personal perferance), I sauteed the onion til translucent, added the garlic, sauteed an additional minute, added the ground beef and browned until all pink was gone. I then placed all the other ingredients in the crock pot, along with the beef, onion and garlic and placed on slow 6 hour cook time and went about my day! We tossed with home made pasta noodles just before serving!

Chicken and Red Wine Sauce
I too have made this dish, several times. Have made the following changes: I use 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup red wine AND use 3 whole carrots, peeled and med. slice on the bias and approx. 10 leaves of fresh sage. I add the carrots and sage with the wine and just let it simmer away. It makes for a wonderful winter's dish, serve over smashed garlic potatoes...with a nice crusty loaf of bread, the rest of the red wine at the table, or in front of the fireplace! YUM-OH

Asparagus Parmesan
I too "tweaked" this recipe a bit by adding roasted garlic and fresh lemon juice/lemon zest..sea salt and cracked black pepper really makes the difference too. Yummy!!!! Even yummier off the grill!!
