About this Cook
a vegan food and cat enthusiast.
My favorite things to cook
vegan mushroom and spinach strata out of veganomicon in my cast iron skillet. if it's not from scratch, i don't want much to do with it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
every year since i can remember, my grandmother makes heavenly molasses and white cookies for us to decorate with frosting and colored sugar.
My cooking triumphs
that dang strata. it's great, healthy, refreshing (in the sense where i'm not sick of it yet), and aesthetically pleasing. i also was really into these green tea cupcakes for awhile, and i make great soups, especially chickpea noodle.
My cooking tragedies
i don't think i'm very great at whipping up guacamole. i also made horrible muffins recently that were way too sweet. other than that, i don't think anything too awful has happened, but i'm always disappointed when i try a new recipe and it doesn't blow me away.

Oat Bran Muffins
These turned out so satisfyingly muffin-like, I was happy. They look nice, have a great muffin texture, and taste good. I followed the recipe except instead of 2 eggs, I used Ener-G egg replacer (2 teaspoons dissolved in 4 tablespoons warm water) because I don't eat eggs. Oh, and I used wheat bran instead of oat bran and added some raisins.

Zucchini Patties
I thought these were good, but I didn't think they were amazing. Everyone else on the other hand absolutely loved them, so it must just be my personal taste!

Mama's Best Broiled Tomato Sandwich
This really is so so good. I love it. When I first found the recipe I made this sandwich nearly everyday.
