I am a happily married (25+ years)registered nurse and mother of two young adult children who believes life should be celebrated and hospitality given often!
My favorite things to cook
I love hearty soups and stews or roasted meats in the winter and grilled meats and vegetables with fresh fruits in the warm seasons. Pasta with home-grown basil pesto is a favorite; we always have fresh-baked bread whenever possible.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother died when I was about 13. When the next holiday rolled around, we not only felt her absence, but we missed her yeast rolls, too! I became the family baker after that, and I've made home-baked breads ever since. My children would be aghast if a meal went without dinner rolls or a French loaf!
My cooking triumphs
I have been a amateur caterer for years. I had the pleasure of serving Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu when he visited General Theological Seminary in NYC during the '80's while my husband was a student there. I served him and other dignitaries a proper afternoon tea as well as a buffet for 100 guests where I overheard the Archbishop say to a companion: "You must try this pork roast; it is excellent."
My cooking tragedies
A few years back, my husband purchased salt in a large quantity, and unbeknownst to me, stored it in a Rubbermaid container exactly like the sugar-keeper. My beautiful lemon poppyseed pound cake was used as a doorstop!
