Wonderful Waffles

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2012
Followed recipe exactly, but they were not crispy on the outside -- instead they were soft. And, I agree that they really have no flavor. Bland. Sorry, but I won't make again. I always think you should try it for your own tastes though. Obviously, based on the ratings, people can disagree. Thanks for sharing!

Pressure Cooker Italian Chicken Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2011
First, let me say I do not have a pressure cooker, so used a slow cooker. Also, I was lazy and, rather than sautéing anything, I sliced the sausage and threw all of the ingredients into the slow cooker. I used fresh garbanzos that I had soaked for about four hours. I cooked on low for 6 hours. Chopped up the spinach in the food processor and added it and cooked another hour. Very satisfying.

Great combination of spices, produce and legumes. Used chicken broth, but otherwise made no changes. A healthy stew!

Spinach and Orzo Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2011
This was nice, but I thought it was a bit too much balsamic. I used a good balsamic, and I do like it, but next time will probably reduce to 1/4 cup.

Cabbage Sloppy Joes

Really good! A smart way to get cabbage into something kids would like. Omitted green pepper cuz we don't like it. Otherwise, followed exactly.

This was OUTSTANDING! My husband and I always order this when we eat out at an Indian restaurant and this was delish. Followed the recipe exactly except omitted the cilantro (blecch!). Will make again and again. Thanks for sharing!

My sons LOVE this cocoa. I use really good cocoa powder and follow the recipe as written. So much better than anything you could buy in a package. A regular in our household.

Easy Cream Cheese Danish

Made for my teenage son who loves cheese danish. He thought it was just great. I made sure to keep dough very cold so that it would be flaky when baked. So easy!

Honey Baked Chicken II

Followed recipe except used skinless breasts and thighs and cooked for a little over a half hour (used a meat thermometer to verify doneness). Was juicy and very flavorful. Will make again.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2009
It seems redundant to heap additional praise on this recipe, but if you are looking for a moist and delicious pumpkin bread, look no further. I followed the recipe exactly, but divided it only into two loaves, which was not a problem. Just need to be sure to adjust the cooking time (mine was about 10 minutes longer, but ensure accuracy by testing the bread with toothpick). My kids cannot get enough of it.

Sweet-Sour Red Cabbage

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2009
I'm a Dutch girl and my husband is Italian. Sweet and sour cabbage is one of our favorite dishes and, according to MDH, this is "the best I have ever eaten." I made no changes, except one and that is to remove some of the bacon grease and add butter. It was truly delicious. My main recipe for sweet and sour red cabbage from now on. Thanks!

Neat Sloppy Joes

Made no changes. We don't like green pepper and I made this recipe specifically because my husband said his mom used to make sloppy joes with celery in it. He loved them and said to give them 5 stars. Thanks for sharing!

Double Layer Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie

Reviewed: May 29, 2006
I took this pie to a dinner get-together and everyone raved. I made a few modifications, however. In order to make the peanut butter layer a little more creamy, I used 1/2 and 1/2 and added about another 2 Tablespoons. I did not affect the "setup" meaning that the pie held together nicely and was very creamy. Also, since the standard ratio for Jello instant "pie" filling is 1-3/4 c. milk to one package, and the recipe calls for 2 c. milk to TWO packages, I used 1/2 and 1/2 (to increase creaminess) and increased the measurement to 3 cups. I found that the two cups was just not enough as I was mixing it (very "gummy"). I made these changes to suit my taste -- no reflection on the basic recipe which was a HUGE hit! Thanks.

Linguine with Asparagus, Bacon, and Arugula

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2006
Really very good. I came across this recipe when I was looking for something to make when I received some fresh picked asparagus. I love arugula and was intrigued when I came across this recipe. My husband hit the nail on the head when he said it was very fresh tasting and light. Delicious! Thanks for sharing.

Very good. Very tender and yes, they do "melt in your mouth." Thanks to Charissalynn for the "scaled down" version. I used the serving size for 7.2 and that fed a family of four, including a teenaged pancake lover. Followed the recipe exactly. Thanks for sharing!
