Mongolian Beef I

Reviewed: May 21, 2006
Very good, but i did have to adjust some things, based on prevous reviews. I tripled the sauce and added some ginger (1tsp.) and chilipowder (1/2 tsp) to it. I also added some mushrooms, but that's cause i just had some left. One thing i really missed in the marinade was some ketjap manis (indonesian, very sugary type of soy sauce) for extra flavour, so i added 2 tablespoons. I also reduced the red peper. Overal it came out awesome served with some plain white rice. But there was lotsa preperation and it would have been bland and way too hot (just peper flavour) without the adjustments.

Baklava

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2006
when i took the baklava out of the oven i thought it would be burned at first, cause the edges were pretty dark. And the syrup seemed so thin, really thought i messed it up. But... it ended up perfect. Best baklava i ever tasted. Not too overly sweet and nice and crunchy. It doesn't look awesome, but better than most (even storebought) baklava i've seen before.

Simple and delicious. I also added some corn, onions and kidneybeans to the recipe. so much easier than just making tortillas.

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2006
Not too good, not too bad. I sprinkled some candy on top, which ended up in the center of the muffin in a large airbubble, which was funny. The looked very moist, kinda greasy even, but tasted very dry. My husband thought they were ok tho, so a bonus start for that.

Chocolate Truffle Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2006
This cookie was just absolutely awesome. So dark and soft. just amazing. Didn't have unsweetened chocolate, so substituted that with some vegetable oil and more cocoa powder. Still came out great.

Chococonut Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2006
Good cookies. They grow on you. they weren't as i expected, would like a bit more of a chocolaty taste to it, so might add some cocoa powder to a next batch. But after you have a couple, they just get better. I did put the temperature a bit lower on my oven, cause they get a burned taste pretty quickly, before they actually are burned.

Quick Quiche

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2006
loved it. my hsband found is a bit too soggy,b ut i think it's just the perfect quiche. I did use a LOT less bacon tho, gouda cheese, less milk and no salt added, caus ethe first one i made was just way too salty, had to throw that one out. But with the less salt, it's awesome.

Bev's Chocolate Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2006
It's the prettiest pie i've made so far, but it didn't taste well. 2 stars for looks, 1 star cause one of the things that went bad was my pastry being too fat. But i doubt that would account for all the taste. I might try again some day with other pastry, but i don't think so tho...

Cranberry Upside-Down Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2006
This cake was just gorgeous. Every1 complemented it on it's looks. My version got a bit heavy tho, but still very good. Had no sour cream so substituted it with cream cheese and cooked it about 15 mins longer. Was just perfect. What a very simple and awesome recipe.

Garden Herb Loaf

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2006
The dough was impossible to braid, very sticky. So i sortof formed it into a loaf and it went all flat while rising. It still gets 5 stars cause i have never EVER been able to make bread as good as this. My husband is not a bread eater at all, but he kept requesting it. I also doubled the amount of spices with some other italian spices. The texture was just awesome. I also tried it with the chickenspices like some1 suggested. Used a tablespoon (probably depends on which brand you use) insted of the other spices. Will use 1 1/2 next time. Very nice. I think you can make all kinds of bread with this.

Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2006
These tuned out delicious, eventhough i didn't do it right. Accidentally took the almond extract instead of the vanilla. Added almost a teaspoon. Then i smelled the extract and chekced the bottle again. Made em anyways, no white chocolate tho, just semisweet and milk chocolate chips. They were just awesome. Reminded me of a subwaycookie. So will try them next time with white chocolate and some macadamia nuts. Update: made em with the vanilla. They were kind of bland, will only use almond from now on. Update2: did this recipe change?

Focaccia Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2006
It was hard on the outside, sticky on the inside, didnt tase very well and didnt rise after punching down the dough. No matter what you do with the yeast, it doesn't work for me. It was also way too sticky. Won't try again.

Condensed Milk Chocolate Frosting

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2007
First time making my own frosting. Wanted to follow the recipe, but messed up, it was still good. I couldn't really cook the mixture, it was too think and kept burning to my pan. And because of that i forgot to add the vanilla. Didnt add water, but that was on purpose. The endresult was still very good and easy to spread, tho a bit sticky. I used it on a chocolate cake and on some muffins. Dont recommend the muffins, cause it will be an awefull mess trying to eat them. It looks absolutely gorgeous on he cake. Will definately make again and add the vanilla that time.

Egg and Cheese Puffs

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2007
delicious. Omitted the butter and did use only half the amount of cheese listed. Also used shredded gouda, cause i didnt have the other cheese at hand. I kept eating them for both lunch and breakfast. they were a bit too salty tho, will use a bit less bacon next time. I also used a silicone pan for them. No sticking and cleans up easily.

Chocolate Surprise Cupcakes

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2007
Absolutely amazing. Mine were very moist and sweet. Almost like eating a puddingcake. I didnt have choclate chips on hand though, so i melted some semisweetchocolate and mixed itinto the batter. So mine didnt have a chocolate center but a sort of automatic frosting. Very nice. will try chocolate chips next time.

Caramels I

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2007
absolutley awesome caramels. Only just starting with making candy and it i was very pleased with teh results. My first batch was way too soft tho, but that was my own fault. First time working witha candythermometer and cheated 3-4 degrees. Too soft, but did gave me awesome ideas about making it as piefilling. Keeping it in the freezer now to reuse later. Was patient on the 2nd batch and added some pecans with it. It was perfect. I did only use 2/3 of the butter tho, seemed plenty and it was.
