Pie Crust III

Reviewed: May 4, 2006
I absoluely LOVE this recipe. I took the advice of others and added 1 tsp of sugar and 1 tsp of salt to the flour and also mixed the oil and water until creamy before adding it to the flour. I found that following the recipe as is makes enough for one pie crust with a bit left over, so I make 1.5 of the recipe for 2 pie crusts. I have used this many many times and will continue to keep making it! Thanks!

Death by Chocolate

Reviewed: May 4, 2006
Mmm.. I used a chocolate brownie mix and 2 pkgs of chocolate pudding. I used kahlua in place of the coffee and used Daim chocolate bars (like Skor). I didnt use a frozen whipped topping because it's not available where Im living so I whipped up cream and added a tad bit of sugar to it. Using cream that wasn't as sweet as store boughten whipped toppings actually worked perfectly as the dessert is already really really sweet!

Amber's Sesame Chicken

Reviewed: May 30, 2006
Really enjoyed this recipe.. used fresh grated ginger instead of 5-spice powder. Added a bit of sesame oil to the pan before frying chicken. Used Fish & Things Terryaki Marinade from this site as recommended and scaled it down to 12 servings.. will use even less next time and cut down on the soy as it was overpowering! This recipe tasted even better warmed up the next day

Crab Stuffed Mushrooms III

Reviewed: May 4, 2006
I love stuffed mushrooms and thought this recipe was quite good, however, next time I won't soak the mushrooms first as it made them kind of soggy.

White Russian Brownies

Reviewed: May 16, 2006
Mmmm...Great moist brownies. I halfed the cream cheese like recommended by others but next time may make the full amount as I thought that was the best part of the recipe. The only problem was the cooking time. Like others have said before, after the recommended cooking time, the outside was cooked while the middle was gooey. I made a "ring" of foil (like when cooking pie crusts in the oven to prevent the edges from burning) and covered the cooked outside portion (exposing the uncooked portions) and put back in the oven, checking continuously until cooked. Although it was a pain, the results were fantastic. The taste of the chocolate and cream cheese was similar to black-bottomed cupcakes my mom always used to make.

Mr. Janssen's Temptation

Reviewed: May 4, 2006
I've been living/working in Sweden over the past year and some and I am starting a collection of Swedish recipes for when my Swedish boyfriend and I move to Canada. I figure a little Swedish cooking will help him feel more at home (he's never been to Canada). This recipe is alot simpler than many you find for Janssons Temptation, and suprisingly it tastes just as good as any you can have in Sweden. Thanks for sharing, this is a definate keeper!!

Australian BBQ Meatballs

Reviewed: May 16, 2006
My rating is only for the meatball part of the recipe not the sauce. I have my own homemade BBQ sauce which I use over and over again! I have never cooked meatballs in the oven before and had always been frusterated with meatballs that were dry after frying. These meatballs turned out moist and perfect!

Apple Pie I

Reviewed: May 4, 2006
I have used this twice now and both times it has turned out lovely. Using the advice of others I added between 2-4 TBsp of flour total between layers of apples and made a simple egg wash to brush the crust with.

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: May 19, 2006
Great meatloaf! I made a few changes, which I always do on this site after reading the reviews of others. I put half the sauce on the bottom and the other half on the top as a glaze. I added a bit of Worcestershire to the glaze, as well to the meat. Reduced the amount of milk to 1/2 cup, used bread crumbs, added one minced garlic clove to the meat, and grated fresh ginger instead of using ground ginger. Will definately make again!

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2006
Perfect.. Soft and Chewy just how I love cookies to be. I cooked the first batch at the required cooking time and forgot about the second batch so they were in for an extra 4 min or so.. the first batch was a bit undercooked and the second batch which was in longer, puffed up and made beautiful cookies! Made with Chocolate pudding and can't wait to try with vanilla as written!

Fish and Things Teriyaki Marinade

Reviewed: May 30, 2006
Overall thought it was good... used with Amber's Sesame Chicken recipe as recommended. I cut the recipe in half, although next time I will use a bit less soy as my boyfriend and I both found it to be a little strong.

Honey Baked Chicken II

Reviewed: May 4, 2006
The sauce was great. I used it with chicken thighs (will try chicken breasts next time though because Im a white meat fan). I added extra curry and doubled the sauce over all. After chicken was cooked, I put the drippings in a saucepan with water, a bit of flour and a bit of milk and made a thicker sauce which we served over couscous!! It was perfect!

Orange Pork

Reviewed: May 4, 2006
I tried this recipe with chicken instead of pork, because I had alot of chicken on hand. I used brown sugar and doubled the sauce as suggested but didn't double the soy. Despite that, I still found it a bit too salty and next time will try even less soy. I also added some minced garlic and grated ginger to the sauce, which gave it a nice flavor. I cut the chicken into strips and next time I would like to try dredging the pieces in flour as suggested already. Overall I thought it was just good, although my boyfriend thought it was one of the best he's had.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2006
The top was crusty while the inside was gooey.. the only thing that salvaged it was by putting ice cream on it.. I used half the butter as suggested. May try it again, because some of my guests actually enjoyed it.. or said they did..
