One of my favorite dishes is Chili w/beans. I can nearly eat a whole pot. I love barbequeing and will put my son on the grill this summer. He's twelve. I love trying out simple recipes and trying to imitate dishes I find in restarants. My sister, who is also a good cook, and I would love to open a nice quaint restarant with good home cooking. We would have dine in and take out-for those who want to impress a husband or boyfriend with a good home cooked meal. We even have a name for it that would honor her and me and our wonderful cooking.
My favorite things to cook
My Favorite things to cook is veggies. I love to season them with meats and spices and butter. This is how we cook in the midwest. I also like roasting birds and beef in the oven as well as on the grill. I'm not much at baking or making desserts unless they're instant or out of the box. I leave that to my sister who can bake a peach cobbler that she needs to start charging for.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite cooking traditions. My sister and I do most of the cooking now. When I was a child everyone would cook. This is how I learned to make wonderful dishes and learned the tried and true. I have yet to learn how to make "Grandma Rolls". Cooking, in my family & with friends, is a wonderful time for being close and talking. We've had some very enlightening conversations in the kitchen. We've cried, laughed, got tipsy, acted silly-just had fun. My dream is to have a huge kitchen where everyone can just come and cook and talk and eat.
My cooking triumphs
I'm pretty good at everything I set out to make. My favorite triumphs are when my son kisses me because it tastes so good and when my husband stares at me in awe and says, "Girl, you sure can cook." When my mom and sis brag about my cooking.
My cooking tragedies
I've had some. One thing I'm not quite good at is frying large pieces of chicken, I can bake it and broil it. So each time is a challenge. I'm getting better so yes it is edible. Another thing I'm not good at is making something out of nothing. I think men do that best. Especially when they're hungry.
