Nonie's Best BBQ

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2012
Very good flavor. Reminds me of my mother's recipe. I like the tang. I think the next time I will add green peppers for extra veggies. I didn't cook the sauce in a separate pan. After the meat browned, I drained it and then added the sauce to the meat mixture and let it simmer for 15 minutes or so. Saves a pan.

Lemon Basmati Rice

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2011
Very light and refreshing dish. I served it with broiled Grouper and I thought it complimented the fish very well. I really liked the ginger flavor as well as the lemon. Will definitely make this again.

Berry Shortbread Dreams

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2011
Delicious. I used Solo pie/cookie filling, apricot, and never had a problem with the fruit running. So buttery and flakey, very rich. I also did not drizzle them with frosting as felt they were sweet enough. I'll try it the next time when I use other fruit.

Alyson's Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2012
I've made variations of this salad for years. I basically like the dressing but tune it to my own taste. I vary the vinegar. Today I used red wine and really don't measure out the mayo, wine or sugar, just to taste. Today I added red grapes, golden raisens and craisens. It is a great start to a salad recipe. One can add about anything you like to this and it would still taste great. Mandarin oranges would be good too. I also used green onions instead of red as I didn't have any.

Boston Cream Pie Minis

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2011
Very easy to make, I used a large cupcake pan and got a dozen. I also added a little Nutella to the frosting/cool whip/semi-sweet choc, refrigerated it and then spread it on the cakes. Love the flavor of everything after it is refrigerated, takes some of the bitterness away from the chocolate. Definitely will make it again.

Kolaches II

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2010
These turned out great. I didn't have lemon extract so used lemon zest, which was fine. I watched them very closely as not to burn the bottoms. Started out with a 400 degree oven, then turned it up for the next batch. Didn't take long for them to bake. Would bake them again but want to try Solo filling. I didn't feel these tasted like a biscuit as another person suggested. They raised light and high. Biscuits are kind of dry but these weren't.

French Onion Soup Gratinee

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2010
This was excellent. I didn't change a thing. The balsamic vinegar was just enough, didn't really notice it, so I am sure it added some depth of color and flavor. Had a lot of onions, probably could have used maybe another small can of broth but other than that, I have nothing negative to say about it. Will definitely make it again and probably not change a thing.

Sister Schubert's® Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2010
This is absolutely delicious. No need to buy the expensive Manwich. This is so much more economical and the flavor is outstanding. Love the tang the ketchup and vinegar give it and the brown sugar balances the tanginess beautifully. Just wish I could find the Sister Schubert yeast rolls.

October Apple Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2010
Excellent pie. I used three different types of apples as that is what I had in the fridge. Followed everything else exactly, no need to change anything. It was wonderful. Will definitely make it again. I think the secret to a great apple pie could be the type of apple one uses. Needs to be tart, juicy and one that holds up well in baking, also the pie crust can make or break a great apple pie.

Healthy Banana Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2010
I have to say, I was impressed. My son is a diabetic and has sworn off sweets. He was a sweet lover. The carbs and sugar content in here is doable. I made them for the first time and used the dates but used applesauce in place of the oil and just sprinkled cinnamon and nutmeg in for added flavor. I tried one cookie and it was sweet, moist, chewy, very flavorful. The banana wasn't overpowering. This mixed up and baked up in no time. This should certainly satisfy any sweet lover's craving as well as a healthier version of a cookie. Would highly recommend it. I also used parchment paper which releases the cookie completely with no problems. I would definitely recommend using it. Cleanup is a no brainer, just rinse and put the pans away.

Blueberry Pound Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2011
Very sweet. Don't know if I would add that much sugar to the pan. I did eat it when it was warm. Very pretty cake, maybe could add a few more blueberries than the 2 cups. I would make this again. I baked this for 75 mins. and it was completely done. Maybe it could use a little citrus flavor, like lemon zest.

Dad's Leftover Turkey Pot Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2013
I loved this recipe. No canned soup involved which I liked very much. I should have increased the liquid as I think when reheated, it could use more. The liquid really gets absorbed after being refrigerated but still very, very good. I made some extra gravy to moisten it after reheating it. This is definitely a keeper.

Layered Mint Chocolate Fudge

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2013
Very easy to make, virtually no cooking if you melt everything in the microwave. Kids love this fudge as well as some real sweet lovers. I also increased the mint by another 1/2 T, very minty but definitely did not ruin the flavor.

Cherry Pie IV

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2012
I thought this was delicious. I used frozen sour cherries (from my tree). I liked the idea of cooking the filling before putting it in the shell. It was so much easier to see just how thick the filling was going to be. I did not use the pie crust recipe given, only because I had some premade which I wanted to use up. My husband commented just how good those cherries tasted. Will be making this again.

Apple Turnovers

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2011
Very easy to make. Have used Solo pie filling also. Made the apple mixture and it turned out great. Had a lot of apple mixture left over. Didn't use the glaze as I felt it was sweet enough.

Thai Peanut Noodle Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2011
I thought the flavor was delicious. I did add more rice vinegar, per suggestions, to cut the sweetness and a little fresh lime juice. I guess I would cut back on the sweetness the next time but overall, I think it was superb.
