Broccoli Rice Casserole

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2011
Followed this recipe exactly. Seemed like a lot of rice to me. I don't see the need to cook the rice beforehand. That way it won't overcook in the casserole. What do you consider a bunch of celery, the whole thing? I didn't use all of it but about six stalks. I have made a similar recipe in the past but wanted to try this version. I didn't think it was that bland. Just use more pepper and perk up the cheese a little bit with something sharper. Probably a better flavor for kids if it is a little on the bland side.

Brown Sugar Shortbread

Just finished baking these cookies. Yummy! They don't look like much but boy do they taste rich and buttery. They could be my new favorite cookie.

Special Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2011
I should have read the other reviews. My eggs were too runny. Should have watched the pickle relish, maybe it was too wet. I think I could have used more eggs. Now it looks messy but I'll eat them anyway. Should just make egg salad with them. Flavor was just okay, nothing special. FYI - my husband said they were the BEST deviled eggs he has eaten so I guess I'm sold. Will make them again. I will drain the pickle relish and use the list of ingredients sparingly. Maybe the eggs were supposed to be jumbo or extra large. My eggs are large and maybe not quite as big as they should be for all the ingredients called for.

Apple Turnovers

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2011
Very easy to make. Have used Solo pie filling also. Made the apple mixture and it turned out great. Had a lot of apple mixture left over. Didn't use the glaze as I felt it was sweet enough.

These rolls turned out great. Didn't change a thing. Had no problem making spirals. Will use this recipe again and again. Thanks.

Lemon Basmati Rice

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2011
Very light and refreshing dish. I served it with broiled Grouper and I thought it complimented the fish very well. I really liked the ginger flavor as well as the lemon. Will definitely make this again.

Leek Tomato Dish

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2011
Personally, we did not care for this at all. I felt way too many leeks for my taste. It was a beutiful dish for presentation but I just didn't think it was keeper.

Berry Shortbread Dreams

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2011
Delicious. I used Solo pie/cookie filling, apricot, and never had a problem with the fruit running. So buttery and flakey, very rich. I also did not drizzle them with frosting as felt they were sweet enough. I'll try it the next time when I use other fruit.

Coconut Pecan Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2011
This wasn't bad. I just didn't think it was exceptional. I didn't think my cake was that moist but that could just be the cake mix I used and nothing to do with the recipe. I don't think I will make it again, there are so many more choices for a coconut cake.

Boston Cream Pie Minis

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2011
Very easy to make, I used a large cupcake pan and got a dozen. I also added a little Nutella to the frosting/cool whip/semi-sweet choc, refrigerated it and then spread it on the cakes. Love the flavor of everything after it is refrigerated, takes some of the bitterness away from the chocolate. Definitely will make it again.

Cranberry-Pear Tossed Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2011
This did make an awful lot of dressing. I think the red wine vinegar was a bit too much, so added a little more of the apricot nectar. By the way, the apricot nectar is in the juice aisle, six pack of very small cans. I will make this again. I love blue cheese, husband doesn't so put cheddar in his salad and he was fine with that. Will make it again.

Kolaches II

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2010
These turned out great. I didn't have lemon extract so used lemon zest, which was fine. I watched them very closely as not to burn the bottoms. Started out with a 400 degree oven, then turned it up for the next batch. Didn't take long for them to bake. Would bake them again but want to try Solo filling. I didn't feel these tasted like a biscuit as another person suggested. They raised light and high. Biscuits are kind of dry but these weren't.

French Onion Soup Gratinee

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2010
This was excellent. I didn't change a thing. The balsamic vinegar was just enough, didn't really notice it, so I am sure it added some depth of color and flavor. Had a lot of onions, probably could have used maybe another small can of broth but other than that, I have nothing negative to say about it. Will definitely make it again and probably not change a thing.

Apple Cobbler

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2010
I wouldn't make this again. Crust was too dry, touch, bland, filling was too sweet, which I should have tasted it before adding all the sugar, could have used more cinnamon. As far as I'm concerned this isn't a cobbler, it is more of a deep dish apple pie.

After the Holidays Ham Bone Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2010
Followed the recipe exactly, no changes made. Felt it needed something else. I have other recipes for soup that uses a ham bone which I would choose over this one. It isn't bad, but it just isn't a keeper for me. My husband did say it tasted better than he thought it was going to. I kept my opinion to myself until after he had a bowl. I was hoping it would have more flavor but just didn't do it for me. Sorry.

Sister Schubert's® Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2010
This is absolutely delicious. No need to buy the expensive Manwich. This is so much more economical and the flavor is outstanding. Love the tang the ketchup and vinegar give it and the brown sugar balances the tanginess beautifully. Just wish I could find the Sister Schubert yeast rolls.

Pork Tenderloin Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2010
I wouldn't make this again. I felt it was too bland, too sweet and not enough flavor. What is the point of the sugar and vinegar? Now I have this huge pot for two people and will be stuck with it til its gone. Hope the flavors marry overnight maybe then it'll have a chance.
