I really enjoy the "next event" where I can look up new recipes and invent my next meal plan! I also love trying to copy great recipes from the fabulous San Francisco Bay Area chefs....dining there is such a treat. All aspects of cooking are so wonderful from the areomas to the wonderful presentation that food allows us to experience. I also enjoy making sure that dishes that I make have a balance with wholesome and a healthy lifestyle. My husband is a type 1 diabetic and my son has the second longest "heart" that has been transplanted in the world. Lets not forget "health in this cooking expedition"!
My favorite things to cook
I love to make a dinner that looks like a hundred dollar dinner plate yet takes me minimal time and energy...I believe that you can make things very tasty and look nice on the plate> that "bon appitite feeling" without slaving over a stove for hours. I love simple dishes, style, with savory taste and smells!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Ok, I admit to having a mom with the most endearing qualities, yet failed to have a cooking gene in her body. I guess that is why "I started tradition" when I was just a small child. My mother told me that I would be allowed to cook one night a week and she allowed me to get all of the groceries I needed. THey were flabergasted when a 12 year old girl presented her first "ham with succulent cherry sause" at her first dinner party for her family. I guess I took over from there on out..."Love ya mom..."she has hundredes of other qualities that make up for her lack of being a good chef. We called her brownies> "burnies" and she still laughs at our "teasing" today!
My cooking triumphs
TO die for> famous bean dip that you cannot pull anyone away from at the party. (Ok, I am sure the effects go beyond the extent of the party..lol.)
I can make a taco out of anything, manhatten clam chowder and seafood pasta that you will never want to go out again and order. Shrimp or chicken Fahitas with fresh veggis, a grilled new york marinated steak or leg of lamb are favorites...my kids birthday choices are "wholemade bacon potaote leak soup" with fresh sourdough bread.
Spinich salad, pot roast, creamy scalloped potatoes> easy and taste like they took hours!
My cooking tragedies
Tried to make those "puffy dough" appetizers and ended up in tears before a party where I was trying to 'show off" to a new sister in law...I ended up throwing together some "flat puffs" which were a complete disaster. I also ended up tasting the dough (yeah right) for some almond cookies(I devoured the dough and was practically sick)...that dough was to die for. I guess you could call that a tragedy for anyone that was expecting a cookie!
