Tartar Sauce III

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2010
I liked this recipe because it was basic. That being said, I altered the recipe slightly after tasting it the first time. I added finely chopped garlic dill pickles in addition to the sweet pickle relish, about 1/8 cup worth. I also added fresh and dried dill - probably about 1/2 tsp worth. The dill really made this taste even better. I also added a splash of lemon juice for some zing.

Big M's Spicy Lime Grilled Prawns

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2008
I am giving this 3 stars because the recipe overall lacked something. Also, I marinated this for only 3 hrs and the prawns were totally tough. With tweaking (suggestions in other reviews sounded good to me) this recipe could be good but as it only gets 3 stars from me. Sorry.

Honey Pecan Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2008
This tastes like any other pumpkin pie with the crunch of pecans. It is good. I recommend using a pie crust shield or tinfoil around the outer crust to prevent overbrowning. Also, I recommend cooking the pumpkin using the microwave method as it saves over an hour of time even if you have to cook the pumpkin in batches.

Chicken Fried Steak

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2007
This was my first time making chicken fried steak. The country gravy was really not what I expected. My husband who is the least picky eater ever couldn't handle the 'milky-flour' sauce. I am not sure if that is what normal country gravy is but I would recommend trying this with a different sauce.

Chicken and Pasta Casserole with Mixed Vegetables

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2007
I was looking for comfort food casserole and this is exactly what I was looking for. My husband ended up making this recipe because I was too sick to cook. The only thing both he and I decided was that the bread crumbs don't really work because they just get soggy, especially when reheating leftovers. We suggest using grated mozza cheese and letting it brown and bubble in the oven. Good flavors.

Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2007
Okay so the thing that attracted me to this recipe was the honey and garlic and slow cooker parts. I stuck to the recipe to the letter and mine did NOT look anything like the picture. I should have taken the advice of other reviewers to reduce cooking time. My chicken was dark dark brown. The sauce didn't thicken at all and so I had to pour it into a saucepan and boil it up - which sort of defeats my theory of using only the slow cooker for a meal. Anyways, it was alright but as far as soy - ginger - garlic pineapple sauces go, I have had better. Sorry, won't make this again. Couple suggestions which might make this better: reduce soy sauce amounts, substitute some chicken broth like another cook suggested, use more ginger and honey...

Mark's English Sausage Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2007
Super good. I can't find sage sausage meat in my local grocery stores so I used regular sausage meat and added some ground sage. I make these alot smaller too because I am paranoid about the meat cooking through and I don't want to brown the pastry too much to get it cooked through.

Chicken Stew with Dumplings

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2007
this was super good. i was craving chicken stew and dumplings forever and when i found this recipe and had all the ingredients on hand i had to make it for lunch. it was so good. my husband who hates soups/stews loved it too because it was so thick and had 'fun stuff' (the dumplings) in it. this is a definite keeper. i used leftover cooked chicken and store bough chicken stock but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. in the dumplings i substituted a bit of dried parsley instead of fresh.

Minute Tomato Soup with Tortellini

Reviewed: May 12, 2006
This got a 4 because it was so easy, but I did have to make modifications to this recipe. I altered the recipe to my own tastes/servings as follows: 1 10 0z can tomato soup 1 14 oz can diced tomatoes 1 1/2 soup cans of chicken broth *kept seasonings same but added garlic powder and onion powder* 1/2 pkg cheese tortellini this was so good. chicken broth i think makes a difference - also using tomatoes in it gives it more texture.
