Blonde Brownies II

Reviewed: May 13, 2006
This is my recipe for blondies (its from a baking cookbook by a certain well-known lady) but my recipe calls for no salt and turns out perfectly, add toffee bits instead of chocolate chips for an extra special treat. Perfect for non-chocolate lovers

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2006
I made this last night and it is delicious! So tender and moist. I had dark pans so i reduced the cook time by 12 min and they turned out perfect. One loaf did stick, so I will line the bottom with waxed paper next time. YUM!

Chinese Napa Cabbage Salad

My boyfriend hates creamy coleslaw, so I tried this recipe and it was a HIT! I added mandarin oranges, which were awesome with the sweet tangy dressing. Will make over and over, thanks :)

Grandma VanDoren's White Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2006
Wow, this is an impressive loaf of bread. I only have two loaf pans, so I used one packet of yeast and around 4 or 5 total cups of flour. Turned out lovely and moist, with a great crust. My boyfriend thinks im a superstar, if only he knew how simple this bread was. Oh, as a hint, I let my bread rise in a dry dishwasher with a pot of hot water, works quick!

Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2006
oh wow... pretty tasty :)My boyfriend loves them and so do I... They take some effort, but if you follow the directions, they turn out great. I kept my cream cheese mixture in the freezer until I needed it, and it spread just perfectly and wasnt runny at all. If you leave the egg out of the cream cheese mix, it will not be able to set up properly. To make my "wells" i wet my finger just slightly and hollowed out a small hole. I did add some extra spice, and they had a really good pumpkin flavor. These are better than the ones at starbucks!! They are also pretty enough to give as gifts, or serve to company!

Blueberry Coffee Cake I

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2007
Yum! I followed suggestions and reduced the flour to 1 and a half cups and increased the milk to 3/4 cup. I baked the cake in a spring form pan and it was so delicious. The topping is caramel tasting and tastes great with half in the middle and half on top. We did add about a teaspoon of orange zest to the batter, which gave it a delicious taste and smell! I will definitely save this recipe and enjoy it again.

Company Potatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2007
These were great cheesy potatoes. I did not have enough sour cream, so I used a little extra milk and 1/3 of a package of cream cheese. I mixed all the cheese into the potatoes rather than put it on the top. I also added 1/4 teas. of the dry dill, and it really made a great outcome. They had kind of a sour cream and onion chip flavor, but so creamy.

Buttery Soft Pretzels

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2007
As I was reading the reviews, I was pretty unsure about how it was going to turn out. I halved the recipe, because it is just my boyfriend and I, and this was my only mistake! I made them as the recipe stated, using the dough hook on my mixer. I added flour until the dough was no longer sticky, so I do not know exactly how much I ended up using. When rolling out the dough I came up with a trick. You need to make them much thinner than you think, so i rolled small pieces into thin (like about the thickness of a finger) sticks, then joined two together to get them as long as I needed them to twist. I made the dough quite thin, but they puff up a lot, do not worry! I also dipped my pretzels in the baking soda mix, which I think really makes the whole pretzel. When they cook they get this browned yumminess on the bottom, that tastes JUST like the ones at the mall. I just drizzled them with butter and a little kosher salt when they came out warm... they were gone right after that. Will make again and soon!

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2007
These are very good. I made them with the dough hook on my mixer instead of the bread machine. They do not remind me of Cinnabons at all, but they do remind me of my Grandma's homemade cinnamon buns at Christmas. Cinnabon's filling have a gooey texture that I think you need chemical ingredients to make :) ..besides, these have to be better for you!!

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2007
These were very moist scones. The dough was a little tough for me to work with, because I was worried about letting it get too warm. But despite my early problems, they turned out fabulous. I made a lemon zest flavor with a lemon glaze drizzle, and I made one with orange juice soaked crasins and white chocolate chips. I used a orange glaze drizzle on the second flavor. The lemon flavor was the most popular. I will make these again, probably trying new flavors each time.

Rempel Family Meatloaf

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2007
Yum! I saw this recipe when it was the recipe of the day. I made this recipe with the glaze listed in the reviews and it was great. I mixed 1 lb of lean beef, and half of a pound of ground turkey, which did not turn out to look very appealing, but it was still a tasty dinner. Next time I will stick with one kind of ground meat to have a better consistency. The glaze really MADE the whole thing, great suggestion.

Sesame Green Beans

Very, very good.... I added garlic when I added the broth. These are the best way to get perfectly cooked fresh green beans! Not to crisp, not to soft. Will make again and again.

Four Cheese Macaroni

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2008
Delicious. I used 2 cups of milk and the cheeses I used were the velveeta, cheddar, and a chipotle cheddar from whole foods. Added extra cheddar to the top and a sprinkle of paprika... it was beautiful and tasty. I made the sauce separate but it still split a little, did not effect the taste. Made this to go with a grilled pork tenderloin and the sesame green beans from this site.

Good recipe for easy morning french toast. I wouldn't use this if I was really trying to wow guests, but for a regular Sunday morning, very very good.
