Hasenpfeffer (Rabbit Stew)

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2014
We loved this! Some words of wisdom - unless we catch our own rabbit next time, I think we'll sub in chicken thighs. Rabbit (at least the one we bought from D'Artagnan) tastes seriously JUST like chicken, but is a lot more expensive. That being said, this recipe is a real winner - didn't change a thing and we are still talking about it!

Moroccan-Style Stuffed Acorn Squash

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2013
We liked this, but I felt it needed more spices to be really Moroccan. I may experiment with a few different blends, but overall the idea is sound. Also, for those squeamish about the raisins - I was suspicious but found they contributed to the dish rather than detracted from it.

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2012
These were delicious! I think the base recipe is probably great (and as some reviewers said, very similar to the Quaker Oats box recipe), but I did make some modifications. I used 1/2 cup of whole wheat flour in place of 1/2 a cup of the all purpose flour. I used craisins instead of raisins because I had a ton of them lying around. I also wanted to use up some chopped pecans and white chocolate chips, so I added a cup each of those. Since I'd added all this the dough got too dry, so I added 1/4 cup of applesauce. Then the dough was too wet, so I added 2 tablespoons of flax seed. Seriously yummy!!!

Dawn's Candied Walnuts

Easy and awesome! However, be careful when you store them - other things in the cabinet will pick up the cinnamon flavor. Put them in something airtight (not just a ziplock bag).

Cheddar Bay Biscuits

Seriously yummy! We used our own biscuit recipe in place of the biscuit mix, and these are a winner every time!

Waffles I

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2010
I hate to give such a highly rated recipe a bad rating, but these were terribly bland and required extensive doctoring to taste decent. A good waffle recipe should stand on its own and not have to have a ton of things added. I'm giving the recipe two stars for being fluffy.

Cranberry Hootycreeks

These turned out beautifully, and my test jar baked up easily and was very yummy! I gave these as gifts and people seemed delighted with them. =)

Maryland Crab Cakes II

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2009
I have lived in Maryland all my life, and these, I'm sorry to say, were not good crab cakes. They were dry and had a poor taste besides. We will not be having these again. What a terrible waste of a pound of backfin crab meat!

Shepherd's Pie VI

Reviewed: May 2, 2009
Very good, but I have to admit I changed some things. First, I used instant mashed potatoes. Second, I used frozen veggies. I sauteed the beef and onions as instructed, but added broiled steak seasoning and some salt free beef bouillon and water (instead of broth) to the mix along with the flour and ketchup. It made a very nice gravy. I poured that into my dish, layered the frozen vegetables in, then the potatoes, then the cheese and some paprika. I baked the result (which was very pretty) covered for 10 minutes at 325 to steam the veggies a little and then uncovered for 20 minutes at 375 as the recipe instructs. This was SO good! Will definitely be making again! A+

Alaska Salmon Bake with Pecan Crunch Coating

This was very good! It did take a heck of a lot longer to bake than I thought it would, however.

Swanson® Ultimate Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2009
These were fine, but I honestly couldn't really taste the chicken broth. I felt bad that I used so much instead of just using water. Not a thing wrong with the potatoes themselves, I was just hoping for more chicken flavor.

Chocolate Ganache

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2009
This is the yummy! One warning, though I don't think it's a detractor from the recipe itself - this doesn't really keep all that well for next day use. Try to make only what you need and use it all up.

Corned Beef and Cabbage

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2009
Okay, so I know I shouldn't change a recipe and then review it, but I was looking in this case for instructions on how to do corned beef in the slow cooker. This was GREAT! I had a 4 pound brisket, and I filled the slow cooker as full as it would go with onions, carrots, and potatoes (we don't do cabbage). I sprinkled the spice packet, black pepper, onion powder, and garlic over everything, added the bay leaf, and added the water. I set the cooker to 10 hours on low (since I had scaled up the recipe) and when I came home everything was PERFECT. My friends really liked it and this was by far the best and easiest corned beef I have ever made. Woo! =D

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2009
Fantastic and simple biscuit recipe. You could add anything you wanted to this recipe, but it really doesn't need anything. I will make this again and again!!! It's also great that it doesn't call for anything out of the ordinary - most people have this stuff in their kitchens at all times.

Maine Lobster Lasagna

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2009
This was pretty good, but mine turned out kind of bland. Not sure what I could do to spice it up. Marylanders default to Old Bay for seafood, but that's not really what this recipe calls for. Hm...
